Just some interesting findings about RW couplers

Unread postby thecanadianrail » Thu Aug 09, 2012 12:29 am

We all know too well that the default couplers that came with RW now are like elastic bands that strech 10' either way from center on a train that has 100 cars (around the average train length for most railroads)

so we have two options for replacements that were said to have fixed the problem and not be able to have the dreadful elastic issue, and there from Greatnortherner and Britkits....heres where it gets interesting

i decided to "try" and make a prototypical length CN train (well as long as the barstow yard could let me anywayse so i was short by 60 cars) which was exactly 140 cars long (7000') using 3 locomotives (also prototypical of CN) which were two CN SD70M-2's and a CN ES44DC. I have GN's couplers instaled on everything and to my supprise they did strech out of their sockets with this 140 car long train in tow....although not nearly as far as default would strech.....i cant imagine what a 200 car train would do to the default couplers.

now here is what i would like to know, how do i go in and change the values or whatever it is to make my 200 car trains possible?

interesting facts about CN trains:
-average train length is around 10,000' (roughly 200 cars depending on car length)
-Trains are usualy between 150 and 200 cars, but 100 or 250 car long trains are not unusual
-most of CN's trains are powered by 2-4 locomotives which are most commonly any of the following: SD70M-2 and ES44DC

Someone else did some better default coupler blueprints ( I'll try and remember where ), but I attached the modified kuju ones I use. Goes in Assets\Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\RailVehicles\Couplings\Buckeye\Type-E. If you want to replace DLC couplers you can just use that one in the DLC coupler folder & edit the paths ( if you can be bothered, should work fine if you don't I think ).

If you want to fix someone else's couplers, it's the Spring & Damping lines.
