Settle to Carlisle

A small simple thing but I would like to know how to pronunce Settle.

Hmm, just the same way one would pronounce kettle, or, metal, although that's spelt differently of course. *!greengrin!*

This site gives examples on how someone from Yorkshire: http://www.yorkshire-dialect.org/author ... dockar.htm about half way down the page is a sound poem called Gerrin' Things Done by Nellie Dockar
(came first in the Mrs Sunderland competition)
The narrator in the sound byte satys the word "settle' in the last line, ie Tha'll ev ter cough up an' settle t' bill.
That "settle" would be similar to SETTLE the village.

SET-ull. Carlisle would be car-LEYEull, the second part is run together in one syllable.
