CSX/NS Route; Any Scenario Builders?

Unread postby georgian22 » Wed Jun 06, 2012 9:59 am

Hello Community, I am finishing the odds and ends of this route.....However, I have never been a scenario or activity builder. I just design routes in which I seldom run. I just enjoy the building aspect. If anyone is interested in building a few scenarios, please email me so I can upload phase 1 which involves 70 miles of CSX and around 65 miles of NS accompanied with 7 miles of TASD and 15 miles of AGR. Just pm me.

Hi O'Brian,
I'm just curious, has anyone contacted you about creating scenarios for your route?

Regards,
Rich S.

O'brian - I edited your post to change the email address from a live link to what you see now.

It's not a good idea to post email addresses in a forum. Email harvesters love that.
Even the way I did it isn't the best. It's generally better to send someone an email address via PM.

If you must post an email address in a forum, the best way is to type it in Notepad, then take a screenshot of it and attach that to a post, like this:

email.jpg

but that's generally too much work for most folks. *!!wink!!*

O'Brian,
Creating scenarios is not hard. Take a note pad and jot down some ideas first what you want your scenario to do. The go into the scenario editor and start creating a simple standard scenario, maybe somethink like point A to Point B (yard to yard) with a consist you built ready to go. Then after that you can go into the timetable and add pick up and drop off for cars. I started off by cloning scenario's with RW Tools and renaming them. Then I used RW Tools to swap out the motive power in my cloned scanrios. Then I would use the scenario editor in Railworks to add more drop off or pick up of cars. Dont worry, if you screw up your cloned scenario thats ok, you can clone again. Also it is best to sit down and read the scenario creation part of the Railworks documents but that is a little dated. Its not hard. Also Railsimulator.com had a page dedicated to video tutorials on route building , operation and scenario creation. I spent a few hours watching those videos, over and over.
I have been experimenting with Rich S. in creating scenarios for his Montour route and I am having fun doing it. Like I said, take notes on what you want first before creating the scenario.
Have fun,
Glenn

But that's precisely the hard part.
For writing a good scenario you have to know each industry on the route, what it would receive and what it would ship.
Then you have to write orders that would make sense in real life, that reflect what real railroads do.
Only then can you start with the technical part.

Yeah, I am out of time with this route. I work full time with HVAC so, I am grinding morning and evening now. I was on vacation and that allowed me to finish but the grind has restarted and I don't have time to do very much....Thanks Glenn for the information and I have received emails from others who can take the torch and run with it...!

I just wanted to have something for the end user.....You guys are the best!
