You know how it goes, theres a random annoucement, then it goes blank for a few months, then "wham" heres the update. I have found that updates likes this are most likely put on the back burner and worked on when bordom strikes. Well thats my theory anyway!

Wish they would fix the dynamic brakes on it. !*roll-laugh*!

Yes, but they've updated it for Donner Pass ( at least the headlight in the low nose version). All they have to do is apply the updates to the other models (and hopefully leave the winter snow on them).

Using RW_Tools I have already updated the dash 9s by cloning the DP Dash 9 and just substituting the textures. The only ones I were not able to update were the NS units as the headlights are in a different location obviously.

Coming next week, if the recent post on RSC's Facebook is anything to go by.

RSC facebooked and wrote:Upgraded Dash 9 coming next week! This superb freight locomotive will be upgraded to TS2012 specification including projecting headlamps and rain effects. Now that the Barstow-San Bernadino core route has been upgraded free for all TS2012 users, this is the perfect time to pick up the Dash 9 and enjoy a realistic Californian freight driving experience. The TS2012 Dash 9 features dynamic braking, BNSF and Norfolk Southern liveries, and 5 scenarios. Available next week to buy on Steam, free to all existing Dash 9 owners.

Those are good news, about Dynamic Brakes and NS livery, IMHO is my favourite cab especially at night.

They didn't say the dynamic brakes were fixed, they just said they exist.

Ah! I see... !**duh*!! They are announcing a feature that already exists. !!*ok*!! I'm no longer surprised, since they patched a huge update and didn't change the version number... *!twisted!*

It would have been bad practice to change the version number, because there has been no change in the executable code.
The only change in the recent update was data files for two routes.

I would agree only if we did not see the performance improvements. This means there was a change to more than just the assets.

From what I've read so far, no executable file has changed. All of these improvements were achieved by improving data files (especially textures, xml structure in blueprints, objects in route files) :
- shorter loading times;
- better performance;
- better visuals;
- corrected scenery errors.

Note that I have not verified this myself.

However my route got these improvements and it was not restructured (I diff'd from a backup). Further more the moire affect became worse in game. RSC never told us specifically what they were touching, just generalities, but there is enough evidence to justify the theory they touched more than content.

Moire is terrible, bothering indeed, even with SSAA3x3 and Highest in-game.
At least one engine I checked (I don't recall anymore which one, I guess was SD40-2, but I compared line by line of bin's) had the brakes (or DB) settings (blueprints values) changed. Definitively was not only "content", and beyond that in the first hour update almost 4GB (1/3 size of the clean default install of RW3, excluding DLC) was deleted and replaced, though only 843 were effectively changed.
All of this is too much changes. Let users unsure about version, and so far the aboslute lack of information of details of such huge update, shows not enough respect for users. A simple "c" in the version woulda help a lot after a verifyng of cache. Is not that simple as ".exe wasn't changed"! IMHO, of course.

No, it is there and will be there though (probably) without TS2012 features, the same for BNSF whisper (or default). Or the four current liveries will stay the same and they will issue two new liveries.
