coupler busting ride!!!

Unread postby csx6063 » Mon May 14, 2012 11:34 am

hello all i thought i would share the scenario i found on trainsim this morning. it's called longpull2012 it uses all default rolling stock. i think calling it coupler busting is right. so far im just out side san bernadino in notch 8 and my couplers are just a screaming. not sure whats going to happen on the back side though !**conf**!

I am really puzzled about this and other posts I've read regarding stretching, straining, busting, etc. couplers. I've driven a lot of scenarios involving long freight loads on a variety of routes and have never yet had a coupler stretch or break, to the best of my knowledge. I have experienced consist tilt errors when taking long trains around curves or through crossovers at the wrong speed, but not anything that I can identify as the fault of couplers. Let me just add that I have not modified the couplers of any rolling stock in any way, either.

So, as I say, I'm just puzzled by the phenomenon.

actully sir. that comes from microsoft train simulator. when climbing a hill if you put too much pressure on the couplers they would break in the game and you'd lose the train. now on RW2012 i havn't had that happen. it can also break couplers if you take off to quick with a lot of slack in the train.

Currently on TS2012 you will experience severe problems when running very long consists, say 80, 100 or more cars, especially on grades, with some DPUs on middle and rear of train. In RW3 the couplers don't break (as in MSTS) but there is a rubber/elastic effect (sorry I don't the name in English, but is the same effect of bungee jumping's elastic cord) that makes the difference between front/rear's speed of consist vary up to 13mph (or more), and then is when some wagons tilt and you derail. Due to the elastic thingy sometimes the rear of train is 15mph higher than the front, even if you are going up hills, the cars merge each other untill you derail. I never saw any scenario with a very long consist and several DPUs distributed along the train, but I had the problem when bidding and testing consists for VORA sessions (using prototypicall long consists).
