A good day for Americana

Unread postby NDORFN » Thu May 10, 2012 7:26 pm

So yesterday morning a mate dropped in with a packet of Big Red, which is really hard to find in New Zealand as are most American confectionaries. Naturally I made plans to do some driving that night while chewing some Big Red and ignoring the kids. Then it happened... A parcel in the mail arrived from my sister who just toured through the U.S for a week. BAM! Peanut Butter M&M's, Peanut butter Snickers, Sno Balls, Twinkies (exp. May 19!!! What's in them? Nuclear waste?) and a Baby Ruth Bar (which I've always wanted to try). The only time I've ever seen any of this stuff is on the Goonies (Chunk). It's sufficed to say that last night I got as close to being a real North American train driver as I'll probably ever get !*YAAA*!

Good Lord, I hope you didn't eat all of that last night or you'll be bouncing off the walls for a week on a sugar high !*roll-laugh*! Baby Ruth is one of my favorites along with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, of course to get the full effect you need a Mountain Dew Code Red to go along with the candy bars and cup cakes :D Now to really get your North American experience down pat, we drive cars and trucks and fly air planes, but we don't have train drivers, we have Locomotive engineers that operate the engines !!*ok*!! For most of us, saying that you are going to drive a train sounds almost as funny as saying I'm going to drive my airplane to Chicago !**duh*!!

How did all that chocolate stuff not melt in the post box?

Twinkies reminds me of that stupid funny vampire movie. Now, I can't even find Ding Dongs here anymore. Oh, what a chocolate treat!

Today was a typical American day for me, went exploring abandoned railroads with my CSX baseball cap and mullet my mom wants me to get rid of... ate a burger, drank some Dr. Pepper, and saw some classic American architecture and cars in Durham, NC.

Nothing melted because it's winter here but the Twinkies and Sno Balls got a bit squashed. Still taste good!

Both Twinkies and Baby Ruth are vastly improved by being deep fried.

Or so I'm told. My arteries scream at the very thought. *!greengrin!*

Why no Reese's Peanut Butter Cups? One of the best sweets in the world.
