Straight roads

Unread postby jpetersjr » Tue Apr 24, 2012 9:10 am

Hello all, in starting to build my route I've been having a problem with the roads to where they only want to curve while laying the roads. For my downtown buildings it would be better if I could make them stay completely straight and square.

May I ask of how you make your roads come out completely straight, if you have to push shift while laying the road.

I think complete re-editing of the first city in my 30's route is in order.

When selecting a Linear object (such as tracks or roads) to lay-down and you want them completely straight, try using the following Radio-Buttons selection from the bottom-left fly-out menu:

Easements: On
Snap to Terrain: On
Snap to Track: Off
Follow Network : On or Off, your preference.

With the Easements On, laying down tracks or roads seems "stiffer and straighter", with less flexibility. You'll see an outline of where the track or road may be laid-down, when it's Yellow in color it would indicate a nice straight line, then you can click to lay it down. You may still be able to lay-down straight roads with Easements-off, it just sometimes takes a bit more of wiggling and finesse of your mouse to get it until you see the Yellow preview outline.

Having the Snap to Track option off, it won't try to automatically try to curve to connect to some nearby linear objects that are already in place (thus, having the problem of it wanting to curve on you).

Don't forget to turn-off the Easements option if wanting to lay-down tracks or roads with more curveability though.

Good luck.
