How to make your own locomotives?

Unread postby mitterdoo » Sat Apr 14, 2012 12:32 am

Hi.
I am a really big fan of passenger trains, especially the ones that make really cool noises.
So when I was coming back from Portland Oregon, I wanted to recreate the MAX with the train and everything. I already have some sounds for the train, but I have no knowledge what-so-ever on creating content for railworks, except routes.
I googled how to make a train, how to create a train, and how to make your own custom content for railworks, but it returned a video of how to put a train into a route and a drifting train (???).
I would like more information on how to create content like this for Railworks 3, such as what modeling program I need, what programs to make the sounds, and how to actually get the train loadable in RW.

I can use Blender, but I don't think it's compatible. I don't want those totally fancy modeling programs like 3D-Studio max because it costs 3 thousand dollars and I'm not paying that just to make a locomotive.
EDIT:
I can also use SketchUp, but don't know if that's compatible either

Blender 2.49 is completely compatible.
