Comparison between the two

I am not sure this discussion is allowed / appreciated in this forum. If not feel free to delete:

I love Railworks and by no means I even want to start playing another trainsim, except Railworks 4 *!lol!* .

- When comparing Railworks 2012 with Trainz 2012 what are he major differences ?
- What is the top 5 of things that Railworks 2012 does better ?
- What is the top 5 of things that Trainz 2012 does better ?

I cannot compare much, but.....
I have a hp DV7 tripler core laptop running 4gb of ram, 1gb of shared video memory.

I can get railworks to run real well with TSX off on my laptop with graphics settings that please me just fine, but in Trainz 2012 I cannot even get it to run smooth enough to begin changing graphics settings to see if it would smooth out. I just gave up on the project for now.

That is my compare and contrast.

As long as the subject doesn't get out of hand and is kept at simply comparing the two without any bashing of either one, I see no reason this discussion can't continue.

That said, I believe it's pretty much accepted that Trainz is considered a model railroad sim, whereas RW is considered a real world sim.

Trainz isn't that expensive. Buy it and find out. You might like Trainz.

Buy 2010 it has more content and runs everything. The difference in performance is negligible. Realistic routes can be made in Trainz:

There are a lot of bad routes in Trainz because it is so easy to make them.

Trainz has Car Movement & Traffic Management System (CMTM System) which makes infinite prototype operation possible.

I have all of them and spend most of my time in MSTS because I like way freighting and MSTS has Activity Generator.

EDIT: Trainz also has TransDEM so it is real easy to get topography into the sim:

I am personally not interested in trainz, tried it and didn't like it one bit. Then after that I got Rail Simulator and then Railworks.

I won't play trainz again. And I won't make assets for it either.

EDIT: I would really love to run Railworks but I can't run BritKits steam because of the save problem. The only time I start Railworks is to see if RSC has fixed the problem.

What is this "save" problem?

If you save a Steam Locomotive at speed it crashes violently upon a resume.

If one plays all the trainsims it easy to forget and Railworks is the only one without multiple saves.

That's a very good tool for RW, allowing multiple scenarios saves:

The one thing that tempts me to install Trainz can be summed up with the two words "Jointed" and "Rails". Their US diesel roster looks fantastic.

They're quite nice externally, but a lot of them use the crappy Trainz default cabs. The ones that do have proper cabs are nice though.
