How to lock junctions..?

Unread postby mitterdoo » Wed Mar 28, 2012 10:50 pm

Hi.
I'm trying to make a scenario in RW3TS:2012 but there are junctions all over the line I'm using. Some continue to the same line, but they're switchable via pressing G. Some others lead to another line yet they're switchable, but the driver may be unaware that it leads off of the line. How do you edit the junctions to go one direction and stay there even if the driver tries to switch them? Also my arm is broken so excuse any typos please. :)

From Railsimulator Wiki, Railworks Documentation, Reference Manual, I found this only 2 weeks ago !!det!! it's awesome!!! !*salute*!

Wiki wrote:Q: Can I preset the direction junctions for my scenario?

A: Yes*. It is possible to set the state of a manual junction in a route via the Scenario Editor. Simple open the 2D Map and operate the junction by Shft+Left Clicking on its node to change its direction. These changes will then be recorded when the scenario is saved (This information is held in a file called InitialSave?.xml).

This allows you to pre-determine a route through a yard for the player, or if your route features only manual junctions, a path for the entire scenario.

•Please note, that this function does not apply to Automatic Junctions (junctions with no blue node shown in the 2D Map, and no lever next to the track). These junctions are controlled by the signalman at all times.

About your question, the player can always change manual junctions, despite of its initial state. Only automatic junctions are locked by AI traffic feature, player can not change the state of automatic junctions, never.

And finally, be sure that no AI Train will pass over (and change) the same junction you have preset for the Player train.

Cheers,
Doc.

Thanks. I forgot there was a wiki XD
EDIT:
I didn't catch your edit in time, so I tried doing it and I came back here to find that it was still a manual junction. How do you make it automatic then? I'll check the wiki but if nothing's there I'll come here.
Found it. Not on wiki but YouTube. *!lol!*

In Scenario Editor you can not turn a manual junction in automatic, and vice-versa, the type is defined on Route, unfortunately. Many problems with AI Trains should be easily fixed if you could change the type of junction, when creating the scenario.

There is an exception to what Machinist wrote about automatic junctions: they can be changed by the player in free-roam scenarios. As for "locking" them in standard or timetabled scenarios, both as a player and as a scenario writer I often find it more interesting to leave junction setting up to the driver. I will say, however, that sometimes it's a good idea (not to mention charitable) to provide hints about which junctions to set. One of the scenarios that comes with the Cologne-Dusseldorf route involves switching/shunting in a very large yard where the sidings are not numbered sequentially and I found myself spending most of my time hunting for a route to the next destination. This was challenging at first, but became an annoyance all too soon.

By the way, Mitterdo, you type better with a broken arm than most submitters with unbroken ones! !*brav*!
