Jack London Square in Oakland CA

My route has a bit of everything.... which means it will take years to finish (without help that is).

Any more pictures of that reddish downtown building. I'll build it and put it in RW.

Here is a link to google maps. The Structure is a parking garage. If you drop down to the street view you will get some really nice views.

No, I'm talking about the other building, the big, old red building in Mike's picture. There is a bridge near it and a train running under the bridge in the picture.

Starting to feel the same way about my route. Maybe we should start a syndicate of specialists. A terrain & track layer, a signaller, a texturiser (is that a word?), a building... builder (jspetersjr comes to mind), a foliage... planter, and a scenario creator. Instead of 5 of us creating 5 individual routes in a year, 5 of us could create 5 routes in a couple of months.

It must take alot of trust to collaborate with others on a route. It takes absolute perfectionists to make any aspect of RW function properly.

mdurdan wrote:That is actually a great idea! We should submit that idea to RSC, a multi-player kind of thing that we can all build on a route via a server (Garry's Mod comes to mind) :D

Let's not shoot ourselves in the foot and leave RSC completely out of it. Beside, they wouldn't support a non-British effort anyway.

We've all got our forte and in most cases a secondary specialty so a possible scenario is this... We come up with agreed routes. I get the terrain and lay the rail using ReDem and RWDecal (assuming members agree that I'm up to it), I pass it on to you for scrutiny and tweaking as you've got an obvious secondary interest in track work and I get on with the next one. Then you pass it on to a "signaller" with a secondary interest in ground texturing ie. SMM (or split the steps if he's not into ground texturing). He get's the signalling 100% functional and passes it back to us for testing and on to the specialiast "texturer". Every time the route is passed on to the next specialist, it's fowarded to the previous inputters for testing. Basically we'd be creating multiple routes simultaneously in the same mannor as an individual creates a good route but here are the benefits: Creation would be speed up and quality maximised something wicked by specialisation. Testing would be as thorough as it gets as each new step would be tested by all steps (inputters) before. Textures of buildings etc... would be consistent. Infact with good collaboration, everything would be consistent... building textures with each other and other objects inc. foliage. Rolling stock would have consistent texturing AND physics. It's a no-brainer really isn't it? Why are we not working together to out-do the Poms instead of whinging about thier neglegence?

That is assuming the route is set in present day. If not, include any and all references to the prototype
