Settle-Carlisle

I see the the Settle-Carlisle line is planned for RW3. Being from the wrong side of the waters, I have to ask if this is a southern extension of the WCML out of Carlisle or a branch going off in another direction. It's looking like a complete Perth to London route on the east side is a possibility in the future as five out of seven (as I count it) segments are either announced or already out. I would like to see the west coast side grow also. I expect that the west main will be more interesting scenically than the east.

It's very much a branch going out in a different direction. I'm less tempted with this as a modern route to be honest, I would have preferred it steam-era.

I looked up the line in Wikipedia. The article said there was a free-ware route for it at uktrainsim. I don't know if it is modern or steam ea though.

Well, if this is to be a freeware route and steam era perhaps you should set it in the 30's and 40's. I built these a while back and uploaded to the library, they are bound to spruce up any steam era route.

a few days to go until the scottish ecml gets released and ive seen a freeware group on facebook for a freeware edinburgh - newcastle section and ive seen roumours of an aberdeen to dundee somewhere

The excellent freeware route is steam era. It is very high standard and is longer than the payware route will be running from Carlisle to Skipton whereas the payware stops at Settle.

The whole route was built for the British steam era and is brilliantly textured with matching scenery buildings, stations, etc, for the period 1920-50, it's superbly constructed and in my personal opinion will offer the steam enthusiasts amongst us a better replication of the whole route from Carlisle down to Skipton, than the RSC future offering, the author was hoping to extend the layout to Leeds in the future, but, what we have already is excellent and thoroughly recommended, if you input the words Kirkby Stephen into the search function, you can also download the appropriate signal box, goods shed, nameboards and station for the area.

A modern era Settle-Carlisle route sounds fascinating! And the steam era freeware Settle Carlisle route mentioned before is indeed fantastic! In my opinion it's one of the very best routes ever built for RW, the author must have put an enormous amount of work and attention to detail into creating this brilliant route.

Also of interest for all who want to create their own scenarios set in Midland or LMS Ry. times: there are three files at UKTS that have timetable and train consist information for this route. Great stuff, very informative!
