@ Griphos I see a couple of frieght runs in the link for it http://www.justtrains.net/moreinfo.asp?pid=533 im sure in no time someone will make a few more, i myself would like to connect the perth to ladybank section up so that its more accurate to real life - nobody i know has ever gone to edinburgh via dundee from perth, im still learning a lot about the route creation side of things and im certainly getting there thanks to my new beast of a machine i got, my wee route is half fictional and half real life, the branch line doesn't exist anymore but i thought it would be fun to do as the main line is still there and i know the area very well and thought that would be half the battle won for me, maybe i could start to learn the scenario creation side of things and contribute something :)

There's bags of scope for freight train running, as I also prefer to run freight and Parcel/Royal Mail trains around, rather than passengers. At the end of the day young man, it'll be your route to do with whatever you want with it. I personally intend to clone my route and make it into 2 separate periodic layouts, the one released from around 2006/7, and another one where I'll delete Murrayfield Stadium and replace it with a smaller Rugby Ground arena with appropriate goalposts to indicate a more 1980's look about the place, I can then run authentic Freightliner trains from both Aberdeen and Dundee terminals, which were in situ up until around 1986/7, down to the Edinburgh area and lots of other freight consists which ran in that era also.

The double header one from the very 1st scenario is frieght, it has to be, starting off at the docks with a heavy load, sounds like a good saturday night haha I maybe kinda assumed the other scenario with the 37 called feeling sick was a frieght one, i couldn't 100% say it is for sure though, wishful thinking maybe but i still reckon there will be some frieght scenarios released not long after release

I'm curious about what is meant by scope for freight scenarios. Certainly, I can put together a freight consist and haul it up and down the route. What I'm curious to learn, though, is whether there are significant yards (for shunting), and industries along the route that can be serviced. My fear is that there are 23 passenger stations and a few sidings, or, like Donner, big yards at each end and not much in between.

By the way, I enjoyed the "young man" appellation. :-) Not true, but nice to hear anyway! :-)

I've just uninstalled my old freeware layout in readiness for this newer version being released and installed, so, I can't have a look for you, but, I am sure that there aren't any major yards on the map as quite frankly there aren't any in real life anymore, not to the extent of the American layouts that are now readily available. The biggest marshalling yard in Eastern Scotland was at Millerhill which is about 3 miles south east of Edinburgh and wasn't included in the original layout construction. There are lots of sidings across the whole map, including the larger station areas at Perth and Dundee. I don't know about working industries as such, I didn't think there were too many to be included on any British routes currently, I suppose one could make a Power Station area and there are Docks I think on the layout, so, they could be utilised for shipments of coal, etc.
I think it may be wise to hold fire until the route is actually released by Just Trains at the weekend and folks can post screenshots of the newer version so everyone can see exactly what is included on the layout for us all. You can view the screenshots on the JT website at the moment, but, unfortunately they don't really show what you want to know. As having had the original route I would recommend it to anyone, especially, now that the Forth and Tay rail bridges have been included, but, with your specific thoughts and query in mind until the route gets released nobody knows what's on it.

in the real world all i know is theres a coal train (class 66) in the fife circle somewhere taking from the mine to the power station near the old ravenscraig steel mill and a class 66 mega long frieght train goes between perth and dundee and then you see it on the way back down south later in the day

Thanks for the info guys. The pre-order special is tempting, but I think I will wait to see what the route actually includes once released.
