K4 exhaust smoke color

Unread postby ozinoz » Tue Feb 28, 2012 5:52 pm

I have had a bit of a look about, but haven't found anything - was just wondering if anybody has had a look at the exhaust smoke colour (color for my American friends :D ) on the new K4's? I know there are a number of factors that go towards the colour of a steam loco exhaust - quality of fuel material, engine load, ambient temperature, dew point, relative humidity etc. In the UK where the weather is very different and the coal quality is generally superb, it is not unusual to see white or very light grey (gray for my American friends :D ) exhaust, but rarely in the US or Oz.

Can somebody point me in the direction of where the colour is determined within the model as I would really like to dirty it up a bit, or advise what changes you have made to modify yours and the results.

!*cheers*!

The file your you're looking for is in the particles folder. would be "Assets\RSC\K4Pack01\Particles" You would open up the Engine_SmokeStack01.bin and edit these lines. You will see your red, greens, blue and alpha. It's in these numbers. One thing to try is copy the numbers from another loco that has darker smoke. I've already played around in here. I also learned the alpha numbers will effect how thick the smoke is. I think 0 would be totally transparent. RWtools will back up your bins but it's good to have copys of your files in case you break it. *!!wink!!*

Don't forget to set "Intense" to false if you don't want pure white smoke.
