Oil Lanterns

Unread postby B-24_LIBERATOR » Fri Feb 24, 2012 9:01 pm

Would anyone be able to create an oil lantern or mabey a few different styles as scenery objects?

Image

Something either rusty or red would be nice with a few different colored ones (or at least clear and red glass models)

I really like the old westy style stuff to the 1910's

I appreciate if anyone here can do this for me :D

I took this on as a time challenge (since I have no time, and the boys are in the shower), just how long would it take me to do a very low poly model...

Image

Faces = 98, triangulated = 220
Points = 112

I think I could make it smaller... but the boys are calling...

I don't think the first one is a railroad lantern, it's too tall and has the metal crosswires. It's more likely a farm lamp. I have a LV and PRR lantern if you need reference pics however. The red lantern looks nice though!

I wasn't really going for just R.R. lanterns I wanted some to put on houses and other buildings as well, that model looks pretty decent though :D mabey add a cage and a handle and it would be good to go !!*ok*!!

That was just a taste of what could be. I am still learning a lot about 3DC so it was fun to see how fast I could make this with as few operations as possible. What you are looking at is one cylinder extruded five times, and then I took your picture and cropped textures from it. From a distance it might be passable, but with the repeating patterns it too gaudy and eye catching.

Give me a more time (I hope you are not in a hurry) and I can add the cage, make the lens glow, unwrap it and create some nice textures for it.

Cool! I am planning on putting that style lantern fairly close to the track to use as markers, so as much detail as you feel is necessary to put in for it to look good from mabey 3-10 feet away is fine. Nice that someone was willing to help and so fast too *!!thnx!!*

Uhhhhhhh... fast is not a speed I have available at the moment :D

Take a peek at the last few blog posts and you'll see why.

Yes, it would. I have made strobe lights much smaller than this and they look really good (please see the UPY-588 in the library).
