Even though many changes have occurred and new features added many of the RW2 rolling stock still looks great and while updating is going on to make the previously built rolling stock TS2012 compliant I am still using them.

However, many of the RW2 rolling stock have as part of the main body texture static numbers. The auto numbering also shows up, which on these cars are not needed. I would like to see if there is a way to disable auto numbering rendering it invisible and will only then keep and use the static number associated with the piece of rolling stock.

There is suppose to be an invisible number set, but I cannot find it. There is a set of numbers associated with the PS1 Boxcar repainting kit, but it doesn't have any invisible numbers (or I don't know how to use it).

I can change the font, the color and the size, but cannot figure out how to blank out the auto-numbers so they show as invisible.

If someone knows how this is done could you please provide the steps necessary to accomplish this?

There are two ways to make the default auto numbers go away besides transparent numbers. One, rename the numbers.dscv file to numbers.dscv.xx, then when the geo is trying to create the numbers, it fails and the numbers aren't created. Two, change the numbers in the .dscv file to 10,11,12, etc. that way the cars will have a number the system can use for scenarios, but it won't draw any numbers on the car.

I tired both suggestion and still the auto-numbers refuse to go away.

The original car set (these are gondolas repaints based on Mike Stephan's, model) and they did not have a .dcsv file. I copied over the one from default and changed as suggested....no change. I changed the name, adding the .xx to the end...no change. I made sure all cars had .xx to the dcsv file to make sure it wasn't pointing to another folder (like default)....no change. The number it's using is from a .dcsv file and is consistent on the number (all the same). If I disable the digits.bin file in the texture folder then I see number blocks, but no numbers. If I disable the numbers, then I get missing texture. I made sure each time that I cleared the cache file (.pak)....no change.

I can change the digits.bin file and it changes the font, size, color. If I had a set of invisible numbers as you suggested were available (cannot find them) then this would probably work. Other suggestions do not seem to work for me.

It was successfully done with the PFE refeers I installed earlier, but I have looked at all the permanent files and cannot see anything that I am missing. The PFE reefers have static numbers and the .dcsv files using one entry of 22 and that seems to work as no auto-numbering files show up on these cars.

I must be missing something or this doesn’t work with older models.

Is the digits.bin file pointing to the correct directory?. Once the .bin is looking in the right place, then you can work your magic. Another way to stop the auto numbers is to double click on the car as soon as you place it in the scenario, then change the number in the right flyout to a two digit number.

What repaint are you trying to install? let me look at it and see if I can sort it out.

After doing a lot of testing I have been able to resolve the issue.

Here is the setup:

I did a full clean install of RW3.

Using RWtools (latest version) and using the TestTrak route, I cloned the Free Roam: UK Stock scenario.

Using the cloned Free Roam: UK scenario I updated the Class 47 consist from BR Blue Class 47 to ES44AC UP Heritage, Class consist 55 to ES44AC BNSF and Class 37 consist to ES44AC UP...saved and clear RW3 cache.

Ran the updated cloned scenario...check the three units and all looked and worked correctly. I the reedited the three consists in the cloned scenario changed the same units to different consists (on different tracks....saved and cleared cache.

Ran the updated cloned scenario a second time with the units on different track and all looking correct......so far, so good.

Now using NS GE AC4400CW-7506.zip file, which has been updated for TS2012 lights (from Digital Forum: http://s1.zetaboards.com/DigiRails_Forums/index/) installed the new NS ES44AC 7506 (this has a static number), edited the cloned scenario class 55 consist with the new locomotive...saved and cleared cache.

Ran the updated scenario and the new NS ES33AC 7506 shows up fine, but the auto-number from the previous locomotive is on top of the static number. The NS ES44AC has no .dcsv file and the digits.bin file in its engine\texture file is pointing to the correct directory. Okay, problem recreated. No matter from this going forward using the cloned scenario can I make it go away.

So I created a new clone of the original Free Roam: UK Stock. Now using the new clone I updated the Class 47 and Class 37 consists to ES$$AC Heritage and UP respectively. The Class 55 this time I updated to NS ES44AC 7506...saved and cleared cache.

Ran the scenario and all displayed correctly...the NS ES44AC 7506 had no auto-numbers showing (as it should be). If I updated the new cloned scenario with Class 55 consist changed to ES44AC BNSF...saved and cleared cache....run the scenario and all the units show correctly.

Now if I update the new cloned scenario again class 55 consist back to NS ES44AC 7506...save and clear cache....then run the new clone scenario all tree display, but the NS ES44AC 7506 now has the BNSF auto-number showing over the static number.

So, my conclusion is that it has a combination of the scenario and older RW2 units not working well with each other. It is like the scenario is storing the unit auto-numbers so if you do a continuation it will use the same numbers on the units. However if you start over using new units the older RW2 units are not resetting the auto-number and picking up the previous auto-number. However, if you start with a clean (new) cloned scenario and update once with the units (including RW2 type) then it works fine.

It would be nice to have someone else replicate my test and see if one is seeing the same results as I being I am still learning how the sim. works and the impact of the latest updated application changes.
