Class 77 discount instructions

Unread postby OldProf » Fri Feb 24, 2012 2:40 pm

When I started RW3 this morning, an add stated that the new Class 77/76 add-on pack is available at a discount to those who have already purchased the Woodhead Line, but there were no instructions for doing so, nor could I find anything at Steam or the RSC website. I dashed off a message to support@railsimulator.com, which received this very quick response:

The offer can be found on steam this link should take you there - http://store.steampowered.com/sub/13585/?snr=1_7_suggest__13

Brief instructions here,

Those of you who own the Woodhead Line Expansion Pack already, will need to add the Class 77 + Woodhead Pack, priced at £32.99 to your cart.
Steam will then automatically discount the price of the Woodhead Line Expansion Pack leaving you with the Class 77 Pack at £8.00.
Please see the example screenshot attached.

Please see the attached file for an idea of how it should look before you make your purchase.

Regards

Rail Simulator Support.

This system worked very nicely, so I thought it good to pass it along.

Thanks for the tip! Now if the sale will just wait until Thrusday. How do you like the Locomotive? How is Woodhead compared in your opinion to say, Horseshoe Curve or West Coast Main Line?

Interesting questions, Mike. Both the Class 76, which comes with the Woodhead Line, and this Class 77 are interesting to drive because they have specialized controls that are much easier to master than those of, for example, the Class 86. When I think of them as a scenario writer, however, I don't like them much because their "spark lights" (the child objects that create the effect of a speaking pantograph) remain on when the engines are used as static objects, producing completely unbelievable lighting effects that devour FPS rates.

Woodhead is also an interesting route to drive, but very difficult for creating shunting (switching) scenarios. In many places, for example, it's impossible to have a mainline AI engine drop off a rake of cars that the player engine will later shunt into appropriate sidings because paths cannot be established between reception sidings and goods sidings.

So far, Woodhead is far inferior to Horseshoe Curve in my opinion as a scenario writer, but I certainly prefer Woodhead to WCML, the latter being far too passenger oriented for my tastes.

For those on a budget, I'd suggest Horseshoe first, Woodhead second, and WCML a quite distant third.
