My major problems with the K4 DLC

Unread postby ozinoz » Mon Feb 13, 2012 4:15 pm

Hi,
Finally managed to download the new K4 pack yesterday -just wish I could enjoy them. Everything appeared fine, yet trying to run any of the scenerios brings up the "Unable to load" error - it cant load the K4's. Trying to add them to an existing scenerio of my own, even adding them in the flyout as a content provider, they do not appear in teh list of locos. After about an hours twiddling I finally managed to get a scenerio to load and all I get is a psychedelic flashing pattern. The HUD appears fine, just no loco. Tried running RW Tools, but that just began throwing up error after error. I am also intrigued by 2 unusual files that were in the Railworks/Assets/RSC/K4Pack01 folder - _.sbn and _.sbn MD5.

Believe the MD5 is some type of check sum file but no idea what it is checking and as for the other one, who knows...

I am currently verifying the cache, but just dont know.

Has anybody else had issues with this download / patch (which updated at the same time) .

!*cheers*!

No, it runs and shows up fine over here.

Cheers; just not what I wanted to hear *!lol!*

Was hoping somebody else had experienced this so I might get a pointer...

Finished verifying the files on my office install. Will take the Steamapps folder home tonight and give it another try. Might also try deleting all the included scenerios and see if that makes a difference. Just grasping at straws...

After running the "Verify integrity of game cache", don't forget to also click on the "Clear Cache" button from the launcher's Tools & Docs tab, which is generally good practice after having a new addon or DLC installed.

Am now getting very annoyed. Have done a restore from my back up version and reacquired the dlc again, but the results are still the same. Verified cache and cleared blueprints cache etc - nothing!! If I get the included scenerio to actually load, I usually end up with a "Failed to Load" error - the K4's. If I try and use them in an existing scenerio of mine, all I get is a psychedelic explosion when I click on it in the rollingstock call out.

I am running a Core I7, Win 7 64 Professional, 8 G ram and GTX560Ti GPU and all other DLC / routes / scenerios are running beautifully. Have emailed Support but unfortunately not holding my breathe. Miffed after waiting 2 months for the first RSC US steam and now this. Has me baffled...

Any suggestions?

We need to calm down here. Many of us have not got any problems running the K4. I can't say I have run all of the scenarios but so far so good and I have put it into the NERR route and have run it free roam there in a scenario I created.

Further thoughts....I had a big problem with the Portland route similar and someone steered me to my settings on my video card which fixed everything. At work right now and can't remember what I did. Maybe one of the other guys can help out here.

After reading your first post over and over. You were saying about the those sbn files. I have them too. No biggy. It got my thinkin tho. Try deleting the blueprint file and restart game clear cash yada yada yada. I delete the blueprints often when I mod something. It just creates a new one when you start the game. Also. You have the latest patch? Do you have Horseshoe Curve? Stupid questions but I have to ask. !*don-know!*

Of course, I don't have Horseshoe curve and the PRR K4 works fine on my side, so I don't think it has anything to do with having or not having HSC.

It's good to know that. I have HSC so I didn't know. I wouldn't think it would matter.

Hi
Have had a reply from Support (which I was impressed with) and I need to send them some more info. I was twiddling last night (just cant help myself) and after deleting the entire K4 folder and reacquiring for a 5th time, when I try and add them to an existing scenerio, even after selecting RSC as an asset provider and the K4 pack in the list of assets (along with HSC, just to be on the safe side), they just do not appear in the rolling stock list. I have also checked out one of the scenerios provided - I still get the "Failed to load error, being unable to load the K4's, but the scenerio opens and all of the rolling stock is there, EXCEPT the motive power (ie, all the box cars, flats etc) - looks odd :D

(Love the repaints by the way - have downloaded already in anticipation of getting this mess sorted :D ) Just wish I could get it sorted...

Hi Oz,
I know this can be very frustrating at times, you cannot get your K4's to function and the majority of us are not having any problems. So far I've only had one problem with my K4's and that has to do with scenarios. If I save a standard K4 scenario while the train is moving, exit the sim and then try to reload the scenario, the engine and / or engines will instantly derail like they were blown off the track by a hurricane. If I stop the train, save, exit then reload the scenario using the Continue button, the tender will jump when the scenario reloads, but it will not cause the train to derail. This problem only exists with the K4, all other saved scenarios this far seem to function properly. At this point I'm not sure if it's a problem with my system or if others are having this problems as well?

One question, have you tried changing your screen resolution? If you are running lets say 2048 x 1280, try dropping it down to 1920 x 1080 or even 1600 x 1200 and see if that makes any difference?

Regards,
Rich S.
Cheers,
Rich S.

Rich. Yes. Saving a scenario while in motion brings disaster when you reload. Also. I've put the K4 in other scenarios in other routes and same thing.
