re install

Unread postby splivesagain » Sat Dec 24, 2011 5:30 pm

I have been working on a new route for about 3 months now and I want to reinstall my RW. I dont however want to loose my route. Can anybody point me in the right direction as to where my route is saved on my PC. I have the downloaded version and it is installed in my C: drive. I have searched for days and I can find a tone of folders but there isnt anything in them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Routes are located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Content\Routes

However, they use 'coded' (can't think of a better name) names. IE: Here is the name for the default Barstow - San Bernardino Route as it appears in the Routes folder:
76b3a3f0-c9b0-48f2-9eff-1af9b00166d6 In that folder is everything the route uses.

You need RW_Tools (don't know of another program) to see what each route is called in-game. And you can use the program to back things up.

You could also use the RailWorks Packager from the Launcher, make a Unprotected package of your route and you can then install your route from the package when need be. This is also a good way to keep a backup of your route project as you make progress on it (make regular Packages of it). That's what I do for making backups of my routes that I'm working on, and it's also come in handy a few times. This is also how you would make a Package of your route as an addon when it's completed if you want to distribute it so other Users can install it too.

Also, if you have the patients you can open each individual route within the Content folder and then open the Route Properties.XML file and on approx. line 16 you will see the route name.
