Looks great in Trainz,but only the Jointed Rail GE's have it. They have great guttural sound as well.
I often drive that TOFC over Tehachapi scenario with SD45's and U-36C's. Lots of raw engine sounds, smoke and stack fire. Those GE's really smoke it up when throttling up!

What actually causes exhaust stack flames? Excess fuel burning up in the exhaust manifold and turbo charger? Accumulated soot burning off?

I believe ALCo PA's were also prone to exhaust stack fires and turbo explosions. Espcecially in their early design phase when the turbos were water cooled.

Perhaps it's when the turbo doesn't spin up to full speed as fast the engine does. This is what caused ALCO's to have large amounts of exhaust while revving up. Perhaps, like said before, this has something to do with it. Maybe a turbocharger failure?

Heh. You need to go read up on emitters a bit, you want a *very* short life-cycle I think. I'm not an expert given I hate the things, I'm afraid.

Actually a blown turbo is the main cause for a GE spitting flames.
