Headlights?

One of the things I used to love in MSTS was running at night, especially relatively long runs where I could work on keeping to schedule while playing some music, petting the cat, and so on. Some of the routes in MSTS took on a whole new look at night, so good (or lucky :) had their designers been in setting things up.

So imagine my surprise when I went to try a night activity on TS2012 and found that apparently headlights give no light whatsoever.

Now admittedly I am using a low-end computer (2.7ghz dual-core Athlon with 4GB RAM and a 128MB nVidia card--that last will be replaced at Christmas with a 512MB card unless I can convince them to get me a 1GB one :) but is that really what's going on?

Running the train in utter darkness is....well, pointless.

Have I missed something? Or is this just a matter of my system not having the oomph to do the graphics?

Thanks!

Kevin

Hi Kevin

With your spec machine (especially graphic card) you will have problems to perform new TSX On and use the headlights.

About default headlights, Trains and Drivers has just released a pack to enhance them. See these threads:

WIP:US Locomotive Enhancement Pack (old thread, but have a lot of shots)

US Loco Enhancement Pack available! (brand new thread)

Great! Thanks!

The comp was a gift to replace my old one destroyed in a fire. I'm hoping a decent graphics card will help somewhat since a new powerful system is not in the cards for a while.

Even without TSX the difference between old MSTS and TS2012 is astounding! I did find the link to the trains UK thread on how to optimize your settings so I'll be doing that sometime this weekend.

And I also have been drooling over various screen shots and can see that my lack of headlights is indeed a function of not having adequate graphics computing power. Ah well, nothing wrong with daytime runs for the time being. I can always fire up MSTS when I need a night flight. :)

Thanks again!

You are welcome, Kevin.

Ask Santa Klaus to gift you with a 2MB (Nvidia is RSC full compatible) graphic card, and maybe (who knows? !*don-know!* ) you end up getiing an 1MB (at least). !*roll-laugh*!

Cheers.

Ps.: the link to the old WIP thread in my first message was wrong, already corrected and here again:

Crappy power supply in this system, so I'm pretty sure a 2GB would explode the thing (or melt the innards :). I'm even shaky about a 1GB.

But as I said, even without TSX, the increase in graphic quality from MSTS is astounding.

Gives me something to aim for (a new system :)

I have a GT520 (2 gig) running just fine with a 400 watt power supply on my gateway.
