Railworks 3 Question?

Unread postby uptrainfan89 » Wed Dec 07, 2011 9:53 am

Hello everyone! First post to the forums for me! *!greengrin!*

I love Train SIm games and I'm considering getting Railworks 3, Ive played TRS06 but Decided its time to try something else. The graphics and quality of RW3 look great but I was wandering, On there site they have a lot of nice looking addons but I notice some say RW2, will these addons still work in RW3 with out problem or will I need to get RW2?

Also I was wandering if Ive seen correctly you can create your own routes in RW, I was wandering if when you buy a new route from the downloads on the main site if all the content such as buildings and such in that download can be used to make your own routes or if they are already in RW?

Also I know TRS06 has the content manager to help with installing content and reskins, but does RW3 have something like this or what is the best way to add reskins and such to the game?

Thanks a ton in advance for helping me with these question! !!*ok*!!

*&!welcome!&*

RW3 does have a package manager to add assets, as long as the addon is setup to use the package manager. I'll let our resident modders answer the mod questions.

Well, like I said once already today, looks like it's New Member Wednesday! *&!welcome!&* OK, let's see.

A lot of RW2 add on's do work fine with RW3, but some don't. and most third party creators are really stepping up and making sure that revisions to existing "stuff" (meaning everything from rolling stock to landscape or the routes themselves) works with RW3/ TS2012.

Yes, of course you can create your own route, building, scenery, locomotive, what ever you want. Now, I don't do any kind of editing but there are a whole bunch here that do, and a friendly bunch at that. There is the built in RW editor, but I recommend RW_Tools http://www.rstools.info/rw_tools.html It's donation ware, but well worth it. I use it to swap locomotives and rolling stock on standard scenarios (career scenarios cannot be edited in any way)

Installing DLC content is easy with RW, it's either a .rwp package or an .exe. Reskins, well, I'm not good at those, but there are literally hundreds of them here in the library.

Any questions you have, someone will be along with help or advice. And again, welcome!

You'll find a lot of useful information that will answer your questions by doing a bit of searching and browsing here. But the short answers are yes, RW2 DLC will work in TS2012, although not, perhaps, wlth all the TSX bells and whistles (rain, cab sway, etc). Yes, there's a package manager and it works well (although I highly recommend getting the donationware RW_Tools as well). And, yes, you can use all the assets in all your DLC to make your own route. Many people do. Take a look at the file library here and browse the routes section and look through the readmes.

EDIT: Chris seems to have beat me to most of this.
