DEM data for new route

I'd like to have a go at creating a fictional route using DEM data of mountainous terrain and cutting my own track through it. I did this in MSTS about 5 years ago and the result was awesome (and ALOT of fun finding the best route through the mountains). Does anyone know where I can find some high detail DEM data? Doesn't really matter where it is in the world as I'll Americanise it anyway.

http://www.zugware.com/I used both to get terrain data into TS for Panamint Crossing:
http://panamintcrossing.blogspot.com/I did this under Railworks 2, and it will work under TS2012. It is possible TS2012 has streamlined this process.

I can't find any where on their zugware website, how much ReDem costs.

The cost of ReDEM is minimal, like less than $20 and well worth it.
