Replacement for Humyo?

Unread postby OldProf » Sat Nov 12, 2011 11:27 am

Humyo has changed hands -- again -- and it looks like the new owners will no longer offer free accounts. I don't use such services often enough to make monthly or yearly fees worth my while, but occasionally find them convenient. So I'd like suggestions for alternatives, please.

How about MegaUpload?

Free downloaders have to wait something like 45 seconds before their download starts, but I believe it's free for uploaders.
Download speeds are reasonable for a free service, although not optimum.

Many thanks for the suggestions! With the addition of a new graphics card (GeForce GTX550 Ti with 2Gb memory) to my also new computer, I just got RW3 up to speed and am having too much fun to bother with uploading screen shots. I'll get around to looking at these other upload sites soon, though. Now I'm warming up (pun intended) for Donner Pass!

Tom, Humyo is for large file transfers, right? If all you want is to post screen shots, all you need is FRAPS http://www.fraps.com/ and a site like Photo Bucket http://photobucket.com/ (there are other image host sites that are free but have a limit)

I have used Mega Upload for huge files. Works great. But FRAPS and Photo Bucket are tops (IMHO of course) I probably have 500 photos on PB (it's $19.95 a year for the Pro account)

Hi,

By now there seem to be about a million of these big file hoster sites. Whichever you use, please try to pick one that doesn't spam the end user with dozens of pop ups or pop unders, has excessive amount of advertising or tries to trick one into buying a "pro account" for downloading terabytes of files by having their "free download" links well hidden amidst many "get pro!" "buy here" "lifetime premium" ... links, when all I wanted was a 50 MB railworks assets pack.
!DUH!

Just my **!!2cents!!**

Cheers,
Michael

I agree with Michael completely about sites that spam--I ate enough of that stuff during my college years! Meanwhile, that resounding smack you heard as this post opened was me giving myself a big dope slap for having completely forgotten Photo-Bucket! Thanks much for the boost to my, uh, memory.
