Time specific freight consists for Horseshoe Curve

Unread postby HbgRdgLine » Mon Oct 17, 2011 7:21 pm

Don't get me wrong, I love the Horseshoe Curve route, but it is unrealistic with every freight car going by being a Pennsylvania car. Are there any freight add ons for this route? NYC, Reading, etc would be awesome. Also, can some one point me in the direction for add ons for the inter-modal trailers. I've seen screen shots of realistic looking trailers instead of plain ones. Thanks for answering, I'm new here so if I missed it somewhere else forgive me.

Check out Golden age of railroading for some older TOFCs and other stock that would look period on the HScurve.

If you are talking about the TOFC cars that came with the CN SD40-2 widecab as part of the US Wagon pack. I have a set of repaints on my site that you can download from the "Fress Stuff" page.

Thank you very much! When I said intermodal, I mean the containers that are in the San Bernadino to Barstow Route. I would like them to be more prototypical instead of just plain colors, you know like Sealand, Maersk, etc. I'm still trying to learn how to get them into the routes. As a newbie this can be very frustrating! Thanks.

I believe from what I have seen of this route it is set in the PRR era up to early Conrail when they started removing track on both sides of the grade. Maersk and newer containers came after that era if you are trying to be era specific and actually it would be more appropriate for TOFC not COFC and definitely not double stacks in early Conrail. What time frame are you shooting for? By the way I live right on the old Reading now Harrisburg Main Line near Philly. My family had 86 years of service on the Reading.

Thanks to everyone for your help. The first question, I live in Palmyra, near Hershey on the Reading main, 40-50 trains daily. My original question was two fold, I want to mix in some other cars for the HC route, such as NYC, Reading, etc, as far as double stacks, I want to change the ones in the San Bernadino to Barstow Route. I did download the ones from Gtrax, but my question now is, how do I get them into the route? I'm pretty good with computers and I've downloaded the RS_Tools, but wow is the learning curve steep! Isn't there an easy way to replace the default containers with prototypical ones? I have no experience using the route editors or anything, I just thought it would be easier to customize so things look more realistic.

Hi,

With RW_Tools you can pretty easily swap rolling stock in scenarios. Run "edit scenarios" from the scenarios menu, select route and scenario, and then you can swap every single rail vehicle in all consists, be they player, AI or static. It takes a bit to get used to, and can be a bit time consuming when you want to swap a LOT of equipment, but it is pretty user friendly once you get used to it (it has quite many features) and is a really excellent part of RW_Tools (among the many other excellent parts).

Cheers,
Michael

Hbg, I suggest, along with Michael's suggestion, you first clone the route and make a copy. Then if something goes wrong, you will still have the original to go back to. RW_Tools is an invaluable asset, but you're right, there is a steep learning curve. I still don't know that much with ti but it sure works for what I do know how to do. There is a lot of information and tutorials on Mike Simpson's RW Tools site.
