view distance and detail with RW3

First I want to say a big 'Thank You!' to RSC for this fabulous upgrade. And a free one at that! That's above and beyond, as far as I'm concerned, since Trainsimulator 2012 is much more than just a patch. I will be buying DLC items in return.

Having said that, one area where I'd like more info, concerning tweaking things:

With TSX on, I do get an 'enhanced' bluish sillouhette for distant mountains, but detail for closer terrain is more fuzzy or obscured, as if by a blue haze.

Attached is a view on my Cimarron & Pacific route. One is taken with RW2, the other with RW3.

I wish there were some way to tweak settings to get that enhanced distant terrarin view, but not lose the closer detail.

This route is new so it does not have a lot of detail yet. The desert mountain terrain shows the effect, RW3, top image, RW2, bottom image.

In the RW3 example, the tracks are about 200' above the desert floor, and the view is high noon on the Summer Solstice. I should be blind. Instead, it looks like a reverse solar eclipse.

In the RW2 example, the tracks are about double the height, and the desert floor is more distant, where you can see more track. It looks like a hazy day in the desert.

Also, in the RW3 example are the white ghosts I am getting in a LOT of places. Hawk suggests this may be due to faults along the DEM tiles. Not sure how to fix that.

Turning off the TSGET yields terrain that is just not realistic. It does not return the situation to RW2, even after many tweakings of settings in program and on the video card (nVidia GeForce 520).

The lighting can be solved, I think. The DEM tiles scare me.

Wow, that Ute Creek looks like my kinda place!!!!!! I'd have a blast driving that!

Everything is way too blue. Personally, I like green grass, don't you guys? !*roll-laugh*! Even if it is a few hundred feet away!

I thought about tinkering with a custom atmosphere today, but on second thought I want to wait and see what/if RSC changes this first.

I agree that the blue haze is a) a bit too blue, it needs to be a tad less blue (more gray) and b) needs to be a bit "thinner"/less intense.

Still though it's an improvement over RW2's method IMO.

Let's hope RSC tweaks it. Or someone out there can figure out how to.
