Well, it definitely looks MUCH more realistic but I still can't tell if the locomotive headlights are actually illuminating anything. Would have been nice to get a short cab ride.

The headlights are illuminating things, watch the shadows change on the train, and see the shadow cast by the rail of the track.

Cool! The only complaint I have is the lack of in-cab lighting.

It's certainly better than we have had but I am personally disappointed. It appears that the light fades out at less than 100 feet based on the container cars to the left of the cab. Now, I have never been in a cab at night, but I would expect the illuminated area would extend quite a bit further down the track. If I'm wrong, so be it. I'll just have to be satisfied to see this much illumination.

Quote of the video's description:
"Please note this video is for technical demonstration purposes.
In the video, anti-aliasing, the new sky and some shadows are switched off.
The lamp is not yet tuned: The luminosity, direction and focus are not set. In Train Sim 2012 lamps will be adjusted to the individual specifications of each locomotive."

Oh and did you notice that they've changed their profile pic on Facebook to a NEC image? - This means it can't be long until release. !*brav*!

For the most part, summertime day and night lighting has been "tolerable" for a sim game. What I am more interested to test for myself is dawn/dusk and Fall/Winter/Spring lighting. Though I've tried to create scenarios for the C&O Alleghany set at 5:30am in April, the garrish glow of some objects and strange color changes of other objects (including track!) caused me to abandon those ideas completely for now (in spite of some beautiful skies).

Which one did you get? We have two in the office. NYC to Washington track side viewing and Washington to Philly cab ride. Both very inspirational :)

It was just the exact opposite kind of demo I was expecting to see from a lighting demo. Was expecting what most probably expected to see. A train, from the outside rolling through a town lighting up the scenery. What I saw there was neat, just not what I was expecting that is all.

Nice idea , but I seriously doubt we'll see anything that could be considered close to "Finished Product" until we have code on our hdd .

Disappointing

Also noticed the wagon's sound are poor (same and short sample). I hope they're considering a chat with Krellnut to use his ultimate sounds (wagons, loco like GP38-2 and others).
