Question about resolution

Is it possible to add resolutions to the drop down list? My native resolution is 1680 x 945, which, being kind of an oddball, isnt listed. Its a Toshiba Qosmio laptop. I have to down rate to 1600 x 900.

Is it possible to add 1680 x 945 through a user - editable file?

You can, but you need a hex editor and comfortable using it. :)

With bezel compensation my actual 3 monitor desktop size is NEVER exactly 5760x1080 so I have hex edit and fix Railworks to properly render the game in my native resolution.

Would RW Tools work? What would a suitable hex editor be?

I'm pretty comfortable editing the .bin, and proxy files...similar to this at all?

Edit: Found this: http://download.cnet.com/HxD-Hex-Editor ... 91068.html

??

Here is a tutorial..

BACKUP YOUR RAILWORKS.EXE - The hex editor will make a copy for you also but just manually back up a copy anyway..

WARNING I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF THIS BLOWS UP YOUR COMPUTER!

Grab HxD: http://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/

Run it.

File/Open/ Railworks.exe

Then View/Adapt To Width.

Now scroll down (it's more near the bottom) to find the resolution you need to edit. I have highlighted it here.

Thumbnails: Click for fullsize.

Now, using your mouse pointer highlight a single digit and just type a number when highlight.. DO NOT delete what is there then type.. Again. Just highlight a single digit and replace it while highlighted. You only need to change 3 values here..

It should look like this when done correctly.

Now save it and run Railworks.. If all was done correctly you should see your custom resolution to choose from now.

Wow.

That was so easy...!!

I assumed it would be a deeply imbedded code somewhere. Thank you very much styckx, worked great! Appreciate the help! *!!thnx!!*

You're welcome.. Yeah it's easy but it's not a common thing people do so might be a little strange for someone a little less computer savvy. Hex editors are more often than not used for less innocent purposes. (pirates) They do have their good uses though now and then.. This being a great example. Just remember any major update RSC send out or a cache verification will revert your Railworks.exe back to an unedited version.

Yeah...I understand about the piracy. I've never understood how they can justify what they do - all it does is retard the hobby needlessly.

Regarding the update overwrite issue, I learned that lesson the hard way. Now I keep a complete manual copy of the Railworks program folder on a separate drive just for restoring my endless modifications when steam updates...I've got a cheat sheet made up now to remind myself of everything I've done. A little nervous about the Railworks 3 update coming in september...I'm sure I'll be busy updating all the rolling stock yet again to take advantage of the new features.... !*hp*!

But it will be well worth it.

Seems like it runs smoother at its native resolution (maybe its just because it looks so much better!) Thanks again!
