Changing a Kuju SD40-2 sounds for a GP38-2 sounds

Unread postby mindenjohn » Fri Feb 21, 2025 4:00 pm

I have a soft spot for the fallen flag EJ&E who operated a small fleet of SD38s and SD38-2s. The nearest we can get to these is a SD40-2 and I have a number of repaints of SD40-2s in EJ&E livery but the sounds are all wrong - the turbocharged SD40 against the naturally aspirated SD38. There are plenty of GP38 sounds around but how do I get one of those into the KUJU SD40 masquerading as an SD38?
I have not yet attempted to "fiddle" with sounds, it's time I did but guidance would be much appreciated.

Just go into the Engine bin file and change the exhaust sound from the current one to the GP38-2 of your choice.

Thanks Buzz, I didn't realise it was so simple. My test for tomorrow.

One giant leap for an old man...........

Success, I did a Ctrl F Engine Sound and got as per picture 1 (Sound mod 1) printed it out (purely for my memory) and did the same for a Justin Cornell GP38. Tested it and tried one or two different GP38 sounds (the RSC ones sound too much like a flat SD40) and went back to the JCornell sounds ending up with as per picture 2 (Sound Mod 2). Suitably modified my collection of EJ&E SD40s (renamed as SD38s - yes I know they have one too many fans over the radiator but its as near as we've got). So for those interested and even those who aren't the pictures tell the story.

You must check JCornell\EMD in the RH assets flyout for the mod to work or you end up with no engine sound at all.
