Rail Laying issues..

I'm having some issues with RW 2 ( and my caps lock key ) that are driving me nuts.. Hopefullty someone can advise me of a way to get around this problem..
What happens is, when i'm laying track, whether on one of my own terrains or on someone elses, I lay maybe a mile at a time, one section after the next in series without stopping. This used to work fine, BUT, with RW 2 what i'm seeing is that no sooner do i lay the track than it seperates itself from the previously laid track, and i'm stuck with a mile of red or wood barriers.. The only way i've found of fixing it is to go back and rip mout all the track and lay a completely new line.. Kinda frustrating .. Any ideas would be appreciated..
Thanks
Pam

First of all: Make sure the yellow arrow is snapped to the previously layed section before laying another one.

And could you please make a screenshot or tell us what your selections in the down left flyout are? Mabe there is the cause of your problem.

here's the screenshot i just took.. This happens with ev ery type of track. Ive tried US Mainline wood, US Branchline wood, even generic yard track. Its always the same.. I've already ruined all the work i was doing on my other route i was working on, so used the Hood River route and added onto it using the landscaping graciously set up by its author.. I hope You all can help me figure this out.. 400 hours of lost work is a hard pill to swallow. Thanks

This is an easy fix. If you look at the upper left flyout, and look for the button in the red square.

Image

It should show you several gray squares above the tracks. Click on those gray squares and it should join the tracks for you. If that doesn't work, then what you need to do is use the "join" tool. Click on one piece of track, then go to the upper left flyout, click on the join button (which I have highlighted in the red box below), and then click on the next piece of rail next to the first one, and it should join!

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Are you using the same TrackRule throughout?

Your selections seem to be ok Pam, but I would unselect the "snap to track" option (magnet with rails) as long you just lay mainlinetracks and no sidings.
It's much easier then to lay straight sections.

And then I'd immediately go to 3DTrains and download the freeware Scalerail. They look lightyears better than the default RW tracks.

Thanks michael..
I downloaded scale rail beta, and am unsure of which folder to install it too. Looking forward to using it though.. It may make redoing the high desert route i did, worth it.. I cant help but wonder if the problems i'm seeing werent exacerbated by my copying all my Railworks 1 assets and stuff over to railwaorks 2. I imagine though that if that were the case, i wouldnt be the only person having these problems. Still, it does seem that raiworks 2 is in many ways much more fragile than railworks 1. I feel that there must be something i'm doing wrong. Laying track, one piece at a time can be a slow and tedious process, which is something that requires a lot of patience, which i've never had, and on lines that go from twenty miles to sixty miles, it can be quite a daunting mountain to climb. Still, i suppose thats just the way it is, for now.. ..
Thank you again, to all of you.. I certainly appreciate the advice and help extended.. Gonna cross my fingers and install scale rail and get back to it :)..
Pam

PS. I forgot to mention that i had tried welding.. But unfortunately i never get the little grey cubes and welding does not work.. I'll keep working on it though..

It should be installed to .../Programs/Steam/Steamapps/Common/Railworks

Why did you do that? Railworks 2 is basically Railworks 1. I didn't have to copy my assets.

When railworks 2 installed, it installed to a new drive ( 2 terrabyte ) that i had installed, leaving me with two versions of railworks on the computer. Since i have a lot of third party trains and routes, i needed to copy all the assets and routes over to the new install. Truth told, i can still run Railworks 1 and it runs fine. But there are some qualities of Railworks 2 that i prefer over railworks 1. Unfortunately, laying track is not one of those qualities..

Hey, Pam, long time no see! Is the work that you lost the one you sent me to beta test? If so, guess what. I still have it. Not sure how I can get it back to you tho, if you want it.

Hi Pam, I just want you to know that I have run into that issue in the past as well. I think the only way to get around it was to rip out sections of track on both sides and then to lay them so they join in some other area. It is possible that I was using two different track rules at the time.

Sorry I can't be more specific.

CHRIS!!! :) .. my gods its good to see you, and Thanks PapaXpress.. I kinda had an idea that your suggestion was the only way to do things, so what i did was went back into railworks 1 and checked out the route. for some reason, the railworks 1 version was more complete, and different than what copied over, sooo,, I packaged up the route from railworks 1 and after uninstalling the bad route, installed the route i had just packaged. The end result is that it works fine now.

I got to thinking about all the great things i could do in railworks 1 that i cant seem to do in railworks 2, like bend a rail up or down at any given point in the rail, and i sorta came to the conclusion that what i'll do in the future is develop basic terrain and lay rail in railworks 1 then finish off smoothing the terrain and applying textures in railworks 2. That should give me the best balance over all, and keep me from pulling my hair out..

Give me a couple months Chris and i'll have an update on that beta. Before i had gotten involved so heavily on the P-61 project at SOH, I had listened to you folks and made a bunch of changes as suggested. Right now i'm gonna focus on fleshing out the landscape and seeing what kind of population centers it lends itself too... Kinda boring just driving around in circles after all ::lol::..
Talk soon..
Pam

LOL, right out of Battlestar Galactica. !*salute*!

You did a P61 project? The Black Widow? Kidding me! I may have to invest in a flight sim again. I think I still have a joystick..............................somewhere.

Found it. Kinda rusty and dirty, still works tho. !!*ok*!!

You'll find the thread on it it here http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/s ... 61-project. I have been doing the flight dynamics and Robert ( N2056 ) has been doing the physical model.. At the moment It will perform exactly like the real bird, ( We think. at least it matches all the available data ) Sadly its not ready for release yet. The plane is excruciatingly complex and the interior especially. The thread is huge at 76 pages, but, being as i'm also team coordinator and originator of the idea, i decided to take a more open approach to development and include the entire community in on it.. Its sometimes made things intense, but over all extremely rewarding.
Enjoy :)..
