Western Pacific switch stand

Unread postby jalsina » Tue May 28, 2024 11:31 pm

This picture shows the standard "tall" switch stand used in Portola, Oroville and other Western Pacific yards, which is different of the small ones used by route designers in FRC and FRCE
Does anyone know if something similar is available in any old or newer DTG route?

Here a panoramic showing the stands:

I have been trying to replace a one-by-one manual switch stand in Portola. For the moment I will wait to replace a batch of stands, so I have done it manually, by doing this.
On editor:
1- Loaded Lakeside track rules
2- Split (cut) the track at the beginning of the switch. The old switch disappears.
3- Welded the split track. When clicking the grey welding upper box the new RWA switch stand appears.
4- I moved the new stand to the correct position.
5- Saved
6- I click the stand. The animation of the disk is not working. !*hp*! But the switch rails are moving when clicking.

Anyone knows how to get the animation to work properly?

Besides some threads here in the forum, I have looked at this YouTube tutorial (I believe by tntrainer):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mi_qZicgTcs&t=442s

When splitting, I never get a bumper, much less two.

The G-Trax track used is bumperless. In the Track edit 9left han mid flyout there isa "Hayes Bumper" use that. The switch stand is in the pic is located too far from the toe of the switch, in this picture move the switch stand to just left of the switch toe.

Thank you John,
If I understood well, you are saying:
"In the Track edit, at left hand mid flyout, there is a Hayes Bumper. Use that."

I haven´t been able to find a Hayes Bumper. Might it be possible this bumper is not in any track of the Lakeside track rules (RWA Main)?
Should I search for this bumper by enabling G-Trax assets? (and use those instead of the RWA Main track rules)

BTW, I moved the new stand in the screenshot to the left.

PTM or Maine Maritime\Scenery\Infrastructure for the bumper.

I did a lot of stuff, but it did not work at all. So, to resume:
I loaded G-Trax track rules. The hayes bumper is there, but I can´t get it to appear when I do a cut in a switch.
I tried several times cut & weld (no bumper using the G-Trax TR) and I always get the other Lakeside stand:

20240531230801_1.jpg

That stand is used in Lakeside for automatic dispatch changes. The non-crewed stand is for manual changes. Something in my track.bin caused getting the automatic stand as default.
So, I get always that automatic stand when I just want the manual one.

Given that state of failure, I decided to use TS_Tools and make a full replacement in the entire route of the manual stands, but none is animating when activated (then not showing the 2 targets).
Doing a full replacement means positioning every one of the stands in the entire route, which is a crazy idea. I wanted to change them just in Portola yard, but this would be a guessing game if using TS_Tools.

The last I will do is checking Lakeside and see if I get a clue of why the animation works there, but not in FRCE.

Thank you anyway, John.

The G-Trax Hayes Bumper is a "place manually" asset not automatic.

When I mentioned the bumpers, I referred to the YouTube tutorial above. Basically, from the tutorial when you do a track cut, two bumpers appear automatically. Then you weld and get the switch stand automatically.

But that happens when the author uses the N-Line track rules.

I don't know if this helps any but the Peace River Route also uses a high switch stand.

Thanks. It might. I don´t have that route.
This one has the light over the disk (or whatever it is, like in the picture I posted in this thread opening).
Anyway, I have to keep digging to make Lakeside stand animation to work.

I got two more routes in this sale (Hannover and Arizona Divide). For the moment I will hold with Peace River (which is in my wish list), but will have it in my sight.

Do you have any idea where the Lakeside route designers obtained that high switch stand asset from?

BTW, your Peace River screenshot is very nice.
