Recommendation for UK freight route with shunting

Unread postby cnwfan » Thu Feb 08, 2024 10:36 pm

With the Steam sale going on, I was thinking about taking the leap across the pond and dabbling into the UK side of TSC. I prefer freight operations, including switching (shunting) as opposed to passenger operations. Any recommendations for a UK route and possibly 1 or 2 UK loco add-ons? I must ring off now and go find my spanner that I left in the boot. Thanks!

One of the best is Weardale and Teesdale. It is set in the steam to diesel transition with a mixture of rolling stock. It has freight and passenger workings. It is quite old now but a golden oldie and at about $3 it isn't a bargain it's a gift!!. There are a heck of a lot of scenarios for it. The other golden oldie is The Western Lines of Scotland. Again set in the transition period. It has short branches off a long main with a lot of scenarios available (sadly not in the sale as far as I know). Both real good starters. You'll find UK diesels a bit like double cabbed switchers!

I can say the Route John recommended is awesome. He recommended it to Me. The best part for Me is the Mines. They are just like the one that were in the Gogebic Iron Range in the UP of Michigan... !!*ok*!! Stefan

The route(s) Stephan refers to are "The Maerdy Branch" and " Return to Maerdy" which are short coal mining routes set in South Wales. Stephan particulalrly wanted a route with the Pithead wheels seen in underground mining.
