HELP! No Sound in Train Sim Classic any version...

Unread postby xxuntitledxx » Sat Oct 07, 2023 12:00 am

I have no sound in any version of TSC... 64-Bit, 32-Bit, DX12beta.

Anyone have any idea how to get sound back?
I've tried verifying file integrity multiple times, I've tried deleting the OpenAL32.dll and OpenAL64.dll and re-creating using the audio bat file.
I'm at a total loss. It happened all of a sudden. No error anything.

Any help is extremely appreciated.

Thanks!

This has also been reported on other forums. One solution posted was "I raised a support ticket with DTG who said there is an issue for Windows 11 users that was caused by a Windows update. The fix cited was to verify local files which basically reacquires OpenAL32dll and 64dll files, You then remove the offending update KB 5030310 reboot, reinstall update reboot again and check results. This solution doesn't apply to me as I'm still running Windows 10." I have not tested this myself. KB5030310 installed without issue for me and at this point I would not reinstall it.

I ended up doing a system restore and all is back to normal. I installed the update mentioned above and no issues.

It seems that of the several work arounds to get audio back on TSC do not all work for all people. Using Windows system restore should put you back before whatever happened that caused this to happen. Glad you got it sorted. Thanks for posting your solution. !*cheers*! Hopefully we will have some guidance from DTG as to the root cause of this.

Someone reported on the Steam forums that they removed AVG and their sound came back. I myself have no sound issues.

Back to no sound... !*hp*! We need a permanent solution from DTG. I don't use AVG, I use Avast. and what other forums are you seeing this on? I've been trying to google about this issue and haven't found anything on this for any recent reports.

This appears to be a windows issue more than a DTG issue. Can anyone please explain exactly what is happening when this condition occurs?

Have you tried disabling Avast? Worth a try. Disable Avast then restart TSC.

So we are discussing a problem you no longer have. We are just searching for what caused it right?

From over on the ding dong forum: You'll need to download a new OpenAl32.dll, extract file from zip folder

Create a copy from the extracted file that call it OpenAl64.dll

Delete the two in the railworks folder and copy the new two that was downloaded and paste them into railworks folder.

That should solve it,

https://www.dll-files.com/openal32.dll.html

saw this elsewhere with someone having the same issue

On UKTS forum someone with the same problem on the same timescale reported it was fixed as follows.
"Hopefully, this saga is over - until the next time. There appears to have been an AVAST update last night (not the core program but virus definitions) and this morning I can start TS as normal with sound. (Mon Oct 09, 2023 ).

I tried several of the suggested solutions with no luck. Even with everything up to date, I had sound in 32bit but not in 64bit.

Based on comments on the UKTS forums I put my AVAST into Passive Mode (i.e. no "Shields" running - just turning off the shields didn't work for some reason) and I had sound in 64bit.

So I totally uninstalled AVAST (now depending on Microsoft Defender and Malwarebytes Premium) and I have no further problems with the sound in 64bit.

I have been using Advanced System Care for years with no issues and it seems to keep the rig running pretty good also.

Buzz,

I too have been successfully using Advanced System Care for years but I don't think it's a factor in this problem.
