Specific Nature of Maine Maritime Industries?

Unread postby Minneapolitan » Tue Jun 21, 2022 10:18 pm

I recently got the Maine Maritime route and I'm really enjoying switching on it. Using Google Spreadsheet, I whip up my own switchlists in a very similar fashion to what I used in the years I actually was a conductor and yard foreman. Part of this is listing the contents of a load rather than just "load" vs. empty. In other words, a car would either say "E" or something like "CEMENT," "MACHINE PTS," or "PROPANE."

I'm curious about what some of the actual industries featured in the Maine Maritime route actually did so I may enhance the simulation experience. Obviously Dragon Cement and B&M Baked Beans speaks for itself, but what about Chandler Transfer, Maine State Pier, or the Sprague tracks immediately adjacent to the wye? I assume some of those industries on the wharfs were taking in empty reefers and shipping out frozen seafood, but some of the scenarios have regular boxcars spotted there. What about that warehouse on the Old GT Yard track? What about the Casco Bay tracks, Barnard, Reynolds, NEPW Logistics, or Kady International? The nature of all these businesses - and any more that you can provide - would be helpful.

Some of these I genuinely have no clue, but I'll try with the others.

Maine State Pier: Lobster, pretty sure.

Sprague Tracks: Paper, outbound from Maine's paper mills.

GT Yard Track Warehouse: Currently a lumber and hardware facility, has been for a while. Don't know why it isn't modeled in game.

Casco Bay LPG: Formerly a gas facility, they've since moved out to make room for the port expansion.

Barnard and Reynolds: Hard to say. They're distribution facilities so they distribute just about anything, but they're also not currently rail-served buildings as of 2022 so I'm not aware.

NEPW Logistics: Similar to above. They are currently rail-served though, so their website probably has information.

Kady International: Industrial equipment supplier, so I guess you could go with whatever classifies as "industrial equipment"
