How to get opposing trains on the same track?

Unread postby rw777 » Sat Jun 04, 2011 7:54 pm

I wanted to reenact that part of the movie "Unstoppable" were the two trains were "playing chicken" and going at each other head to head and at the very last moment the manned train was able to avoid a head on collision by exiting to the crossover and barely missing the unmanned runaway train.

Is this possible to do in Railworks? I think no matter what I do the Railworks game prevents this from happening and it won't let more than one train on the same track. It always tells me that the junction is locked by another train. I have an AI train on the parallel track going to opposite way (opposing traffic) and I have a simple crossover, but no matter if I set it to automatic or manual the game is hardcoded to disallow me to accidentally go onto the same track.

Does anyone know if there is a possible way to disable this "safety protocol" so I can play more daring missions? Thanks

Is it possible to manually override "junction locked"?

I'm a new comer to RailWorks and became interested in this sim/game after watching movies like Pelham 123, Runaway Train, and Unstoppable, etc. I know this game is more like Flight Simulator than GTAIV, and this is not the intent of my question so please don't take it the wrong way...

I wanted to play chicken with an opposing train but the game will not allow this. I have two high powered train running down parallel but opposite tracks (going the opposing direction) and I created a very simple route and very simple standard scenario where the AI train powers down its end of the track at max speed and I the player power down my end of the track at high speed. I created a manual crossover junction so I can (if I wanted to) have the option of getting on the AI trains track so that my head would be facing his head... However the game always give this error message saying that the junction is locked by the AI train, and the manual junction lever won't budge no matter what I do...

Obviously I think this 'safety protocol' is hardcoded in the game itself. This is evidenced by the fact that posts like these ( viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2064&p=18043 ) go to demonstrate that the developer of the sim went to many troubles to keep it as "family friendly" as possible... By question is, is there a way to disable or override this "locked junction" safety sort of like how some have found a way to disable the "game error derailed" error message? Is there a file that can be editted to give the player the ability to force junction switches to operate regardless of circumstances?

I think that won't be possible.
You can always try, but generally there is no way to turn off the dispatcher.
