Looking for a v-e-r-y old route

Unread postby OldProf » Sat Jun 12, 2021 4:24 pm

When I first discovered train simulation and what has eventually become Train Simulator, I downloaded, drove, and even made scenarios for a route the name of which I cannot even recall. All that I can remember of its late history is that it was more or less taken over by Ottodad, who extended it beyond measure until it no longer functioned. Does this strike anyone as familiar? If so, please post what you know in this thread, especially if the route's installation files are still available. I'd love to revisit it.

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Sounds like Cajon Pass. He tortured it beyond all recognition as I recall.

Could have been the old PLE Route from Beaver Pa down to Cumberland MD.

Three candidates fit your description if my memory is correct:
- the P&LE and the Connellsville to Baltimore routes made and abandoned by Thomas Bontempo;
- the BSB Mojave route by Bill Putnam which was abandoned and became the Cajon Mojave by Tomcat, I think this is the one mentioned by Buzz.

Im currently using https://github.com/hartator/wayback-machine-downloader (wayback machine downloader) to see if I can resurrect the files. Just taking very long as I am downloading all snapshots.

Will keep you posted.

Edit: I could only get the CSX Mainline and the Putnam BSB Mojave routes.

There was also Tennessee Pass by Jonathan Lewis that Ottodad had gotten his hands on and, as far as I'm concerned, proceeded to destroy. He did have it on his site at one point and predictably, during one of his temper tantrums, he took it down. I don't know if this particular version is still available anywhere.

There is a Tennessee Pass 2 in the file library here that is a scenery upgrade of Jonathan Lewis' original route done by Marc Simpson. I have not downloaded TP2 so I have no idea of what was changed from Ottodad's day.

Here's a thread on Trainsim about it;

I have the P&LE final 2012 version. With asset files and a patch file. The whole thing is 819 MB.

That's amazing! Would you be able to host it on RWA or on another site?

CSX Mainline has been available for quite some time on the Ohio Valley Rail System website, as has the P&LE. Not tried the second one, but CSX Mainline is quite old now and unfortunately it hasn't really held up all that well.

Scenery is sparse, and the trackwork is very rough in a number of spots. Still, the scope is admirable; the route goes as far as Connellsville in the west and Martinsburg in the east I believe, don't think it ever quite reached Baltimore.

Since the P&LE is available on the Ohio Valley Rail System, maybe I don't need to post it.
I'll keep the files just in case.
