New York Central Niagara

There's a really good but very expensive book that has just about everything with the Niagara which I don't own.

While the Niagara is my favorite northern, my favorite articulated has to be the DM&IR 2-8-8-4 design (Class M3/M4).

What I found amazing is that these classes actually have 3 preserved examples and are very well documented, with all sorts of resources available.

I saw this “United States” and “RMS Queen Mary” in Southampton Ocean Terminal in 1957. I was on a day trip aged 9, they were huge and very impressive. Never to be forgotten.

My favourite non-articulated US steamer has got to be the N&W J class, 611 is a gorgeous beast IMO



My favourite articulated steamer is Southern Pacific's Cab Forward (AC-12 was the last of the variants I believe):

My favorite is by far the Reading & Northern 425. The color, the whistles, the proportions, the bell, everything about this loco is gorgeous.

The Yellowstone is My favorite too. Not the largest, but the most powerful in terms of tractive effort. The trip to the Lake Superior Transportation Museum, in Duluth Minn. is worth the trip. They have one there. Also an excursion train up the North Shore of Lake Superior. Also if You like Great Lakes Ore Boats, they have great display of them. Milwaukee Road shrouded Hudson's are awesome too.
