how do you get water in the boiler for lima 2-8-0 consolidation

I am trying to run the Lima 2-8-0 Consolidation steam engine and have got a problem with getting water in the boiler.

I have the procedure, but I cannot identify the valves to turn in the right order for water to enter the boiler.

When I hover over the valves, the description that pops-up in the cab is different then the name that is used in the manual.

I tried pressing 1) the K key (Exhaust Injector Water Valve) .....then 2) the I key (Exhaust Injector Lever), but still no water goes into the boiler. Consequently the boiler runs out of water.

So if you know how to do this, it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know whether the cab controls function on this loco but I fill the boiler via the F4 HUD by clicking on the fill the boiler icon.

If you're running the expert one, once you have the water valve open from the tender, make sure you open the injector roughly half way to make sure it 'picks up' and actually pushes water into the boiler, then open it all the way.

If you just open the injector all the way it'll just blow steam.

Did you make sure to open the Exhaust Injector Steam Throttle too? See page 33 of the manual.

Quote: "Allows steam into the injector. The injector lever (see below) is useless if the steam throttle is closed."

Shift 8 to open it. Once it's open, you can leave it open for the remainder of the scenario.

Thanks Mrennie....but this is where I am a bit confused.

In the manual on page 33, what is the difference between the Live vs the Exhaust

So is the procedure to
Open the Exhaust Injector Steam throttle (shf 8) - and leave it open,
Open the Injector water Valve (K)

When would I use the Injector lever (l)

The exhaust injector uses low pressure exhaust steam (which would otherwise be expelled up through the stack), whereas the live injector uses high pressure "live" steam coming directly from the boiler. The advantage of the exhaust injector is that it doesn't use up boiler pressure, but it takes longer to inject water into the boiler. Conversely, the live injector fills the boiler at a faster rate at the expense of using up some boiler pressure.

At the start of the scenario, open the two injector steam throttles (exhaust is Shift 8, live is Shift 9).

Then, the procedure for using (opening) the exhaust injector is:

1. Open the exhaust injector water valve (hold the K key until the valve is fully open)
2. Open the exhaust injector lever (tap the I key).

To close the exhaust injector:

1. Close the exhaust injector lever (tap the I key again)
2. Close the exhaust injector water valve (hold Shift K until the valve is fully closed)

Similarly with the live injector ...

To open:
1. Open the live injector water valve (hold the L key until the valve is fully open)
2. Open the live injector lever (tap the O key).

To close:
1. Close the live injector lever (tap the O key again)
2. Close the live injector water valve (hold Shift L until the valve is fully closed)

It's best to do this from the cab view, just so that you can watch the valves and levers as a way to verify that you actuated them correctly.
