How to do A Verify Integrity of Game Files.

Quite a few people have a misconception on how to do this procedure correctly. I had to do one yesterday which I hadn't done for many years as I was having an issue with TS being that TS sometimes wouldn't respond after trying to run a scenario. I would just get a black screen. Anyway, I started the Verify Integrity Of Games Files which took some time and when it had finished it said I had about 3,000 files that needed fixing. After this, I went to the downloads page by clicking on downloads at the bottom of the screen and the downloads page, it said validating TS files. This took some time which after it had finished started to download 600 MB of files. After it had finished I started TS and the first thing I noticed that I had the startup screen train sound which I hadn't had for years. Then the next thing I noticed was that TS was now showing me the two correct items of the latest release and featured release pictures instead of the Maerdy Line and the Stream Lined Coronation Class loco which came out over 8 years ago. The next thing that I noticed after that was that now the scenarios start straight away. In-game the loading of tiles seems to be a lot smoother with hardly any stutter on the route that I was running as to how the same route was before I had done Verify files.

PS I know that my grammar is not the best. :D

Did you repeat the procedure (booting in between if needed) until Steam stated that there were "0" files to be re-acquired?
I found you had to repeat the procedure to this point to get full benefit!!

Actually, IIRC, it says "3000 files could not be verified and will be reacquired".
It doesn't really mean 3000 files need fixing. It only means they couldn't be verified.

The game can't verify these files because of diverse reasons, including network problems, server problems, and some files being actually broken.
If it can't always verify them, then it can't always fix them.
So you need to so the procedure again, and again, until it says "0 files could not be verified".
Only then are you sure that all files were verified and/or fixed.

That's right 600 MB the first time 96 MB the second time.

Let us not forget it is only re-acquiring many files that have had a date or time change since you installed them.
AFAIK not all files re-acquired are corrupt or faulty they are just different time-wise to those in the master steam db.
Glad you got it sorted.
