trouble unpacking AP files on my new computer

Discuss almost anything about RailWorks.

trouble unpacking AP files on my new computer

Unread postby LionelDave » Sun Sep 29, 2019 5:28 am

I just jot a new laptop and installed Railworks via steam download and a lot of the routes do not show any scenarios. However the quick drive for those routes work.
I then installed RW Tools and it says that I have 71 files that are not unpacked. But shows my scenarios for all the routes.
So I run RW TOOLS in admin mod and it appears to go through each ap file but no file is change even though RW Tools says they have been changed.

What else do I need to do?

Any help will be apricated because my search ability is of no help.

First question - why do you need to unpack the .ap files? TS is designed to work with packed and unpacked files, and the only reason to unpack them is if you are going to make changes to them - even then you only need to unpack the files you will be working on.

Second question - which scenarios are you looking for? Almost all TS routes from Steam now come with Career scenarios only, so you won't find any under the Standard tab.

Third question - do you have 7Zip installed? That allows you to look inside and extract files from .ap archives, which are really .zip files renamed.

Allen

A lot of the route are like the Racal to cottonwood routes and are not really TS routes.
My question is why does RW TOOLS see the scenarios when railworks doesn't. I have always had to unpack these routes before when I've done a clean install on a computer. and RW TOOLS has always unpacked them before.

I just hope I have not lost these routes and their scenarios.

Steam will only install add ons that you bought from there - anything you got from third parties will have to installed from the files you downloaded from them. Do you have those files backed up, or the emails with links to the files? If not, you might have to have a conversation with those suppliers, with proof of your original purchase.

Any freeware can be downloaded again if it is still available.

Alternatively, do you still have your old computer? If so you can copy Assets and Content to a USB memory stick and then transfer the stuff you are missing to your new laptop.

Great News when I got back from church and lunch TS must have done something because all my scenarios are now present and working even though RW Tools still shows 71 unpacked files.

Unless something else happens I can live with the current situation.

Again, you don't need to unpack anything unless you plan to modify files in archives.

I don't know why, but seems really hard to get this message over - just have to keep saying it.

For the OP, I suspect Steam has been carrying on downloading to your new computer, and perhaps you don't know how to check if it is happening - in the Steam Client, hover over the Library Tab and then click on Downloads: that will show if anything is still downloading.
