Train Sim Blender 2.8 Exporter?

Unread postby TFOLRailfan » Fri Sep 13, 2019 11:07 pm

Hey! I would like to ask if there are any .igs exporter for Blender 2.8. I have used this http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 3&t=137524 exporter, but I got Blender 2.8 and I made something without realizing that exporter is not supported. I also installed 2.79 again but only to find my model gone. I guess you can't go back. And yes I am new to the forums.

Why can't you go back ?
Uninstalling Blender and deleting all old configuration files in Programs\Blender Foundation\Blender\ (not the subfolder 2.79 !) and Users\<username>\Appdata\Local\Blender Foundation\Blender\2.8 would help, I asume.

Unfortunately we don't have an exporter yet for Blender 2.8. The author of BRIAGE ( http://jujumatic.free.fr/index.php ) says he's working on it and hopes to finish by the end of the year.

As for back porting your 2.8 model to 2.79, that is harder. Right now I have both 2.8 and 2.79 installed ( separate directories in \Program Files\Blender Foundation ). And I have found the easiest way to move models between them, in both directions, is with copy and paste. In 2.8, select your model and Ctrl C to copy. Then in 2.79, ctrl V to paste it in. Materials and texturing don't always move intact, but its better than starting over.

Train Sim Blender 2.8 Exporter

You can export your model as FBX from Blender 2.8 and import it in Blender 2.79b as FBX.
RailWorks Plugin for Blender 2.8 will come in Q4 2019.
As there is no Blender Render Engine hence the plugin do not work.

I can't go back because I uninstalled 2.8 so I can install 2.79. So I opened the model I created in 2.79 and all I see is an empty space

There is a relatively easy way to move a model from Blender 2.8 to 2.79. In 2.8, select all objects of the model that you want to export and press Ctrl+C (universal copy command). Open 2.79 (to a new scene or and existing one) and press Ctrl+ V (universal paste) and there you are. You can create a model in 2.8, uvwrap it, texture it and animate it. Then, copy and paste it to 2.79, assign the shaders with BRIAGE along with any specific shader settings, add the textures, and export it via BRIAGE. This allows you to take advantage of the new features of 2.8 and use 2.79 as the exporter. NOTE: Your model won't appear textured in 2.79 unless you assign the textures in the UV Editor, but this is not a necessary step. I've tested this and it works.
