Trainz finally catches up with TS graphics - Trainz 2019

Now that I've given up route building in TS I actually have time to run trains. Trainz 2019 was on sale so I finally got it, and am impressed enough with the graphics that I can say it is now competition for my time with TS and TSW. Even routes not upgraded to 2019 standards look much better. Trainz has always been easier and more fun to operate, so I'm enthused.

They are UK or German. Trainz is an Australia company, so they do not know much about the US. However, a content creator has made new tracks with plates and spikes a month or so ago. If you have enough computer it looks very good.

How are the driving physics and sounds? I’ve always thought (maybe unfairly) of trainz as more of a model train simulator. All the screenshots I’ve seen look amazing though.

It varies quite drastically depending on who made the DLC. Railworks has quite a steep learning curve in general so you try to do things right the first time. Trainz is more forgiving so there's people who make arcade-ish physics just to get the train to roll and others like jointedrail or rrmods who try to step up their game.

I believe that it many ways, Trainz graphically surpasses all but TSW.

Here's an example of what makes this game a visual delight.

Graphics quality is like the skin on a fruit. The skin on an orange can't surpass the skin on an apple in quality. The appeal is in the viewer's eye.

We'll just have to wait until 2029 when the graphics are comparable to TSW.

The lack of backwards compatibility and the download station subscription cost is a huge turn off for this sim. TSW looks far more appealing, but it still looks to be in the pre-alpha stage in regards from a modding/editing perspective.
