Your future choice of Route(s)

Unread postby nlmcm » Mon Apr 11, 2011 2:45 pm

Many RS-RW enthusiast have tried Route Building, and finding it far more difficult to create than orignally thought, generally because their efforts are not what they had hoped or planned. It is candidly, a rather tedious task indeed (Cajon Pass Route, some 3,000 man hours), some expensive software may be needed for customizing certain buildings, like the Chicago skyline and Union Station. The software employed by RSC costs $5,000 per license (single rate, not bulk). There sotfware is the latest, its so great, more can be incorporated on the European Routes, without sacrificing Frame Rates per second (FR/s), even on older PC's.

An example:
My personal dream would be the infamous Race Track Alley of the CB&Q era.

Chicago Union Station to Aurora, IL and onward, to Burlington, Iowa, on the west side of the grand old Miss: Mississippi River. Total distance, over 200 hundred miles, mostly double tracked mainline, passing vast farming areas, Galesburg, IL would be one of the larger cities, ending in Burlington, IA, a modest sized community.

Race Track Alley still exists today, handling major freight traffic from Ciscero rail yards, mixed with Amtrack California Zephyr and the Empire Builder, at 79mph and heavy double decked commuter trains 24/7. On three tracks, with high speed crossovers, all the way to Aurora, a distance of some 28 miles. You want heavy A. I. Traffic? This would be one of them. CB&Q, shared these rails with Northern Pacific and Great Northern Railways, i.e., passenger traffic of North Coast Limited and the Empire Builder, just to name two.

Survey Questions - Your choice of a Route(s):

1. Can be either freeware or Add-on - YES or NO, another words, would you be willing to budget such a expenditure?
2. Which Route, i.e., CB&Q, Burlington Northern or BNSF, subdivision or district, i.e., Chicago downtown Union Station to Aurora, IL or continue to Galesburg, IL or beyond?
3. Specify your preference of era, Steam (before early 50's), 60-70"s (before Amtrack) or current.
4. Specify if you would like 3DTrains Scale Rail and Roads. Makes a big difference in realism and beauty, and does not affect Frame Rates/second. Costs is minimal, compared to any new route, which is already available for the Cajon Pass and some UK Routes.
5. Provide (optional) other details you would like to observe on your chosen route. Think of the details we have seen on Portland Terminal Route as an example.

Go for it ladies and gentlemen, let freeware and add-on developers know your dreams. Today! And include more than one if you like.

Clickity-Clack,

Peter

Copy and Paste for your Reply:

1. Freeware or Add-on - YES or NO
2. Route:
3. Era, Steam, Pre-Amtrack or current.
4. 3DTrains Scale Rail and Roads?
5. Provide (optional) other details.

It's already in development, but I'll answer anyway *!!wink!!*
1. Freeware for the route, but I'm thinking about a scenario pack as donationware
2. Route: non-US - a small passenger commuter line
3. Era: today
4. 3DTrains Scale Rail and Roads? nope, non US but I'm using the tree pack *!!wink!!*
5. Provide (optional) other details: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=880

And my time planning really got out of hand. At first I thought I could complete it even on a hobby basis on weekends in some months, now half a year is over and I'm only halfway done. I took some breaks in between where I hadn't touched it for 3 weeks and some backsteps due to unresolvable RW errros. Still I'm making progress even if it is little and I will complete it.

My thoughts exactly, I could never do any of this. Routes, scenarios, repaints, it's all beyond me. !**duh*!!

Beauty of any simulation, is that their are several components within it. I.e., as model railroaders, some are only interested in operating train(s), shunting, long range, passenger or freight, others are only interested in scenery, and still others create from scratch - building freight or pax cars, repainting, adding sprung wheels, kadee couplers, interior lighting and on and on.

To be all of the above, is the rarest compliment we could give such an individual.

AZ, that is what you saw now !*YAAA*! , in the future who knows what may happen.

1. Freeware or Add-on - I would be good with either as long as it doesn't get too expensive.
2. Route: How about something in New Mexico along the BNSF Transcon
3. Era: Current
4. 3DTrains Scale Rail and Roads? Yes
5. Provide (optional) other details. A route like this would have a lot of single and double track mainline running at track speed with the option of a high volume of A I traffic as well as branch line freight and AMTRAK.

1. Freeware or Add-on - YES or NO depends on wether it would be welcomed, even donationware would be good
2. Route: Glasgow South West , Inverclyde and Ayrshire coast line (Uk)
3. Era, Steam, Pre-Amtrack or current. Early 90's- Modern
4. 3DTrains Scale Rail and Roads? Would be pretty cool , although most of the route is in countryside with nothign to look at except fields , not very much roadway either
5. Provide (optional) other details. Anyone using the GARL route from Thomson can see where these routes would extend ( Inverclyde goes down from Paisley st James and Ayrshire goes from Gilmour 3 and 4 ) , has the potential of a lot of scenario creations due to the freight yards and the amount of different destinations and frequency of trains used on the route
My scenarios are short, but they leave plenty of room for scope. Time to stretch to other routes I think

well i had this posted on the same thread at 3DTrains so i thought i would post it here too!

1. Freeware or Add-on - YES but with the possibility of having payware objects like the stuff from PT route and from allaboard
2. Route: CN's Mainline between Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Edmonton, Alberta Canada
3. current.
4. Scale Rail, Scale Road (i would prefer PT track but it's payware)
5. The CN Mainline Saskatoon, Sackatchewan to Edmonton, Alberta. the scenery would be a flash from Saskatoon to just before North Battleford, after that it is really hilly with a big valley until just before Lloydminister. after that it nice rolling prarries untill Edmonton. Edmonton is CN's "central hub" in Western Canada. the Rail yard spans a good 1/3 of the width of Edmonton!
here is a pic of the big bridge at Edmonton, a real sightseer!

http://maps.google.com/local_url?q=http ... PMIfhhfVSw

and with having this route the trains you would alwayse see are intermodal, grain, mixed, oil, and sulfur! this route has higher end mainline speeds, and VIA's famous "Canadian" runs on this route along with other passenger runs. a bonus with having edmonton is the ammount of switching operations you can do with the smaler locos, weather it is switching with slugs at the yard, pickups at the local industrys, or even working the shops pulling out new cars and pushing in old ones for updates and repairs! this route also has lots of switching operations along the way, mainly switching at elevators every 30-60 miles but there is the large "Husky/Mohawk" refinery in Lloydminister, and all of the sulfur plants between Lloyd and Sask. Very busy mainline traffic, about what you would see on the cajon pass or around Bailey yard. This mainline even still has some single track sections around the NorthBattleford area due to the tight corrners and challenging terrain (challenging for the prarries that is). another pitcurestic scene is right beside Borden, Sask. where CN crosses over the Yellowhead Highway (Hwy 16) and then crosses the Saskatchewan river on a Big over and under tressle bridge! this is the scenery around the Saskatchewan river near borden: http://maps.google.com/local_url?q=http ... 0329._._dg North Battleford even has a small yard for some switching operations!

Well i hope this incouraged some of you to do this one, if nobody does before i finish my route in the next year or two i will have no choice but to undertake it! i will keep updating this post when i find something else interesting about the route!

1. Freeware or Add-on - Add-on if done really well, Freeware if not so detailed.
2. Route: Canadian Pacific Intermodal Yard to Symington Yard
3. Era, Steam, Pre-Amtrack or current. Current
4. 3DTrains Scale Rail and Roads? Yes please!
5. Provide (optional) other details. This route starts in an Intermodal yard in Winnipeg, Manitoba (close to my place!) and ends up in a huge yard near Oakbank, Manitoba. It's a mish-mash of different loads (boxcars, autos, container are the main ones).

Ok ill take a poke at this

I will start off by saying i did try making this route gave up on trying to make a correct terrain template had streets and track laid out perfect but could not figure out how to get the terrain right. !*don-know!*

1. Freeware but if i can see my own house in the game i would pay big **!!2cents!!** $$$$$$$ **!!2cents!!** (yes i live that close to this railroad) But i would pay for this one!

2.Reading & Northern Railroad also connected with Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway
Websites if interested to know more http://www.readingnorthern.com/index.shtml & http://www.lgsry.com

3.Would like to see it in current day BUT with some of the old equipment available for the special runs They run a beautiful blue light pacific 4-6-2 out of Jim Thorpe,PA Its the R&N 425 locomotive on thier websites

4.Yes defiantly 3DTrains Scale Rail and Roads ,SMMDigital crossings and a good model of the Jim Thorpe Train Station

5.My house "i wanna see it in game" **!!bang!!** But seriously this route has it all beautiful rivers, live RR tunnels next to abandoned ones previously owned by Central Jersey lines. And some of the best scenery in PA and allot of abandoned rails and stuff

P.S. There may be children in this forum !DUH! so ill keep it clean and not say what im willing to do LOL for a reskin of the sd-40 shown on that website R&N
