Attaching an image url from railpictures.net

Unread postby JohnS » Sun Dec 03, 2017 5:27 am

I've been trying to post some pictures from railpictures.net to help someone show what they would like to see as a repaint. When I preview the post everything looks good and when I post it's fine but when I return later to check on things all that's showing is the word "image" with no pictures. I've tried it 3 different times. I'm coping the pictures address "right click, save image address" from railpictures then click the Img button and paste it in. That works until I return later and it's all gone. !*don-know!*

I think you need to D/L it from them and then upload it to here. That's what I always do anyway. Did you try one of the buttons above, the Img or the URL one?

Yes the url button will give the link to click on and that's fine. When I use the Img button and paste in the link it will show when I preview the post before posting. It will then post the photo as it should but then if I leave the RWA site then return the images are gone. It must be holding the images from my cache then as long as I keep the site open it stays but if I do anything else it's gone. I'll do like you suggest and just upload the photo. I didn't want to use server space if I could just link the picture from the site that's already hosting it.

Yes we have 2 TBs of storage here and only 50 gig is used so far. Also it is not usually allowed to link stuff from other sites. Site owners frown on that.

That's a good point. I didn't think of it as being a problem but I do understand where the issues would be.

Just right click on the photo, select save as to save it to your computer then upload it here by selecting the upload tab at the bottom of the reply screen. Anyway that is how I upload pictures from other sites to forums. Or upload it to my homepage on my ISPs site, and copy the link from their.

Some do more than frown... a few years ago a site owner decided to add code to his site that replaced any linked picture with a porn picture. The poster could not see this because he had the original picture in cache.

Suddenly my inbox asploded with complaints. That was a dickhead move from the site owner.

A couple of other tricks they use is that the photo you download has a watermark on it, or you just download a thumbnail of the full picture.
