New to Railworks: Switching Loco's Mid Sim

Unread postby Seawolf SSN21 » Thu Mar 17, 2011 1:56 pm

Good Day Everyone,

I am new to Railworks. I have been playing around with the sim for a few days now. Liked it so much, I wanted some American locomotives so I purchased Challenger pack. I have a few questions however:

Can you change locomotives within the sim after you start a scenario? IE British steam loco's in American scenario's or free roam.

In free roam, can you add or subtract rolling stock cars to your train? When I play, its just the locomotive and tender for many free roams. Basically, is there a way to construct your own train before or during a free roam session?

All the Best,

Welcome to Railworks and the Community. !*cheers*!

If you want info about Scenarios you can also look into the Scenario Editor section here in the Forums.
For some general info on RW you can also visit the new Railworks Wiki.
It's new so there isn't much information now, but I think the section "Scenario Editor" there might answer a lot of your questions.

I hope this can help you and again welcome. Post all your questions here in the Forums, there is a bunch of nice and helpful people. !*salute*!

So there is no "in-game" method of switching loco's or adding/removing cars from the train? All one can do is make their own scenario via the editor?

Not exactly. In a free roam scenario you can use any existing loco (if the engine is on) by simply clicking on it.
You can also couple and uncouple all rollingstock that is on the route.

But there is also the possibility to change the stock in a Freeroam scenario by editing the scenario with the scenario editor.
If you want to change the loco in a standard scenario and you want to keep the orders for the train you'll need "RWTools".

Thanks for the info. Are you anywhere near Munich? I visited there a while back. I saw a big green train in the deutsches museum. I also remember a big mining exhibit. It was a pretty cool museum and a great city!

The Deutsches Museum is great. !!*ok*!!
I don't live near Munich, I live near the city of Passau, that's in the sout-west end of Bavaria only a few miles from the Austrian border.

You can change trains at anytime, but it is not recommended to do that in scenarios. You can change ends of a train by stopping and pressing "CTRL +"
