Can you drive the CPRR 4-4-0 engines like any other steam engine?

Unread postby LionelDave » Fri Jun 02, 2017 6:56 am

I would like to get the CPRR 4-4-0 engines that steam has for sale but looking at the video it looks like you have to do be doing a lot of things all the time like setting the blower and dampers, opening drain cocks and lots of other thing to keep the engine running.

I would like to know if you can run these engines like any other steam engine just using the regulator, throttle and brake without having to do all the other things?

Thanks

I would think Mike would have done the automatic fireman but I could be wrong. I do not have this engine though so what do I know. !*don-know!*

Yes, you can. I deliberately made this model so that it can be used in any mode, simple or expert controls, with or without the games automatic fireman.

The absolute easiest way to run Jupiter is to change the game settings to "Simple Controls" so that you can operate it with the very easy F4 HUD controls (one lever that controls speed by combining braking and accelerating into a single function, and a button to change direction). If you stay with the so-called Expert Controls, you can still use the F4 HUD and although there aren't any automatic train brakes, there is a hidden fake independent brake that I put in on purpose to help novice players who might otherwise have had difficulty stopping the locomotive - click on the button for the independent brakes and the brake lever will then work just as if the locomotive actually had its own air brakes (it allows you to cheat on the downhill runs, so obviously I don't like to encourage its use).

P.S. I suppose the video ought to have stated that it was demonstrating the locomotive in Expert Controls mode with the automatic fireman disabled, but that it's compatible with every mode of gameplay.

Thanks for the information. It is very helpful. I an going to try it as I like railroads and engines in that time period and there are not too many that I know of.
