Hi All, am I blind or what?!

Unread postby PDX-Mike » Fri Feb 25, 2011 3:03 am

Been away from SimRR'ing for quite a while. Have had Trainz, and the EA version of RailSimulator. Just got RailWorks 2 and was hunting for some new stuff. I ran across the BSB-SF Helper scenario by Michael Stephan here on this site. So I read the text file and picked up the payware add-ons listed, then I started on the Freeware list, got all those and did all the installs. Fired up RailWorks and tried to load the scenario, no joy, stared loading then just hung.

Well as they say, if all else fails RTFM! LOL. So I looked closer at the text files that came with the GP7 freeware repaints. Oh Oh, seems I missed the "You must have installed David's original SAL GP7 engine before you can use the blue and freightbonnet repaints." line. But the next line says :"The SAL GP7 is available here: http://railworksamerica.com/fl/rl-st.html
and here: http://uktrainsim.com/filelib-info.php? ... leid=23689"

Well I've been on all seven pages of the rolling-stock pages here and I can find no SAL GP7, or anything by David for that matter.

Have the files been removed?

I'm currently TRYING to download it form uktrainsim.com, but it seems that unless you want to pony up for the "PREMIUM: membership you are stuck downloading on an old Hayes 300baud modem over rusty barbwire. I started the download two hours ago, and I was 12 of 12 in the queue. Now I'm up to 4 of 25! And the download hasn't even started yet.

I believe the link to the GP7_SAL here at RWA was removed because it was out of date. You need the UTKS version to have it work correctly in game.

I have loaded it here:

Considering that the version available here was added in Oct of 2009, you may very well be right Sam.

If so, I'd like to know so it can be removed.

There was a thread a while back about GP7 repaints having problems and I seem to remeber that the problem was caused by the GP7 SAL. The fix was that the UKTS version was an updated version that had corrected the problem. The UKTS version was added Apr 2010.

If the problem was just in trying to re-paint it, I'm not sure if I should remove it or not. !*don-know!*

Maybe someone could shoot David Brindley and ask him to clarify (and also ask him if he would upload his GP15 here - http://www.uktrainsim.com/filelib-info. ... leid=24254)

I wish we had an "Obo's Catalog" for rolling stock, though I would not dare attempt it!

More needed and more possible, I wish we had a consolidated chart of the available [un]loaders in the game that showed which cars haul what product and which loaders it can use. The information is out there in pieces and drabs but every new RW user has to go through the headaches of figuring it out. Would be much better if one person did this once for everybody. This would also highlight the gaps we have in the collection that could be filled. I have a collection of cars right now that can haul three different loads. I have three loads available but only two match the cars. So I have a car that I have yet to located the load for it, and I have a load in search of a car. I know I can pull up a few folders, a few readmes, and a few web pages and I'll get it all figured out... in an hour or two... but, wow, it would be nice to look at a chart for 2 minutes and know exactly what I need!

Thanks all! @ Hawk, yep there it is page six item 11... I guess I am blind...Just kidding.

Anyway I finally got to the head of the line at UKtrainsim and got the file downloaded. I got it installed and all the repaints from here installed. Had a brief chance to try out the BSB-SF Helper scenario. ( It loaded right up with out a hitch). I could only get the helper consist to go forward, didn't seem to make any difference where I put the reverser lever, release brakes and apply throttle and forward it went. Too tired to play too much with it, will look at it again later.

I may have to learn how to use RWTools to swap out the regular version and use the simple controls version....
