Opinion on physics

I was just wondering what some peoples opinions are on physics mods like the SD70, SD75, csx SD80, bnsf Marias pass, kuju es44ac. Are they almost necessary for realism standards and would you recommend them to other members or just your own personal opinion about them.

I don't use them. I learn to drive what I have been given by the developer. Never having been a real life engine driver, I wouldn't know the difference anyway.

I have installed FanRailer physics mod in all my engines models you mention, with very good results.
But there is a new player in town for all GEVO ES44 and I can tell you the physics look very good: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=16950

It's certainly worth installing them since it makes the physics somewhat more bearable. The default physics on DLC from DTG are usually pretty wonky.

They are making engines behave more realistically.
THis has two advantages: makes the game more realistic, and makes engines behave in a predictable way. Without it, the RW roster is a huge mess, all engines behave differently, you have to try to remember how to handle each of them.

I can only agree with Chacal that the latest DTG DLC this year, have much better physics, at least for US locos which is mostly what I buy.

I did try the SD70ace physics with a few coal hoppers and 1 sd70ace and notice the amps reading is different and with the physics mod it took longer to slow down and i slowly applied increased brake pressure 10% slightly every 5 seconds and when to 80%. I my self am not an engineer but i know it can take some distance to stop a freight train.

IMO, even not as a train driver, there's something unappealing about gliding up a 1.5% grade with a loaded coal train in N3 at the very most. That's how awful the default physics for the DLCs are mainly because the people developing them have not a single clue as to how US trains should perform. At the times they made most of the DLC, they didn't have people like myself or others to input on the development process. Though I've since ceased being a part of it for multiple reasons.

I hear you there, ive sometimes have a freight train in n8 and save my game and come back to continue the next day and i have wheel slip at 40mph. lol

This has wandered far off track into the never ending bitching about physics in general. Let's either stick to his topic or end this.
