Clear Creek NG - Consist tilt. Anybody else??

Unread postby ozinoz » Wed Jun 15, 2016 4:40 pm

With some time off this week, it is the first chance I have had to fire up Clear Creek - just LOVE IT !!*ok*!!

One thing I am having issue with is "scenerio failure due to consist tilt" (and wheel slip) - anybody else?

These are my own created scenerios. It can be right at the start. part way in after a save and resume (I have even taken to stopping in a passing siding and saving rather than on the move - sometimes fine, other times scenerio ends) Last event was just getting into the first grade outside Golden on the move and it failed. Not sure just what to try next. Thoughts??

The other issue is wheelslip on the B40 - it seems to always be spinning its drivers while stationary (even though the wheels are not actually moving)

!*hp*!

I think these are just peculiarities with TS. I get wheelslip after resuming from a saved scenario.

Hi,

Can't say much about the issues after setting up a new scenario. Except this: did you exit to back to the main/drive and start from there, or did you go directly from the scenario editor into play mode? Try to avoid doing the latter, mainly for correct initialization of all signals and AI services but maybe too for the steam engine physics? Who knows!

I have seen similar issues (not being able to resume from saved scenarios) when using other steam engines on other routes too. I can't say if it affects all steam engines / routes, or just some of them. Let alone what might be causing it. Suffice it to say that I'm now always running steam engine scenarios in one go.

Cheers

Are you by chance making scenarios with a helper pushing on the rear?

I've recently had this problem with a Scenario of my own creation. You need to go back and check each car for tilt. On mine I noticed that certain areas of the route if the train was travelling over 30mph it would trigger consist tilt. It turns out that the last two cars in the consist were very screwed up in their positioning and were falling over. I tried deleting the last two cars, but then the next two went screwy. The final fix was to delete entire string of cars and start again.

Just thought I would update this in case anybody was having issues.

I was in fact running a mid-train helper, Rio Grande style. :D I guess what is happening is the scenerio starts, with the player loco stopped with brakes on and it gets a shove from the helper / banker and voila, cars everywhere. Doesn't happen every time - I just restart or resume and try again. Also try and stay below 15 mph

The more I see of this route, the more I am in love. Reminiscent of the current Cumbres & Toltec and skirting the Animas River on the Durango & Silverton. Finally made it to Forks Creek - hope to find some more time on the weekend.

Thanks for the tips...

Since you are running a mid train helper, it could be coupler blueprints are fouled up.
I've said for some time that the couplers need a minimum distance set in the .bins but am rarely heard on this.
If the couplers on that route don't have a minimum distance of something like .01 (.001 also works) then the couplers will push in from behind when a helper is attached and cause the cars to make contact, which results in a "consist tilt" error.
That applies to the cars and engines in any route with American couplers.

Setting the max distance to .05 stops the type-e couplers from stretching out of the stock

Setting the centering distance to 0, stops long trains from expanding, after stopping on level track.

Spring coefficient should also be 0. !!jabber!!

Those setting give approx. 6" of realistic slack per coupler. Some dote once said my settings didn't give any slack at all. I sure knew in a hurry who had even tried them...

Keep in mind all stock used in a scenario would have to have the same fix applied.
