Improving Physics, mods or individual corrections

Unread postby ssbobz » Thu Feb 11, 2016 11:57 am

I've been looking into 'fixing' the physics off and on for a while now so I've come to understand the code is a limiting factor and problematic. However, I found the mods by FanRailer and these threads:

Sherman Hill Car Weights- viewtopic.php?f=29&t=6688&start=15&hilit=dodgy+physics (and the BIN files therein)

Dodgy Physics- viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3737&hilit=Physics

The mods are fairly new, the threads are older, and I've seen posts by FanRailer about his mods possibly not working or being replaced during updates, not exactly sure which. Anyway, what I'm wondering is, are the mods and changed BIN files, or others, popular and viable or does everyone pretty much make their own personal changes based on real data?

The weights of the Sherman Hill freight cars were updated as part of the TS2016 're-release'.

Just saying. !!howdy!!

But if fate should mark me to sit by your side,
Let's be pleasant travellers; it's so short a ride."

Ah. Do the routes released after Sherman Hill was updated have better weight and braking data in them as well, has the issue largely been resolved?

Soldier Summit was the first route, then the TS2016 Sherman Hill update and soon Feather River. Whether the consensus of opinion is that the issues have largely been resolved is not for me to say, but what I would say is that a lot of effort has gone into trying to improve things and you'd definitely notice the difference, for example, between running over Soldier Summit using default Marias Pass stock versus that from Sherman Hill.

That's good news, I'm already looking forward to Feather River.

Would the adjustments from the previous threads still be worthwhile on the older content or are there newer files to use? I'm not terribly disappointed with anything I just feel like so many scenarios are overpowered.

This is sort of like asking economists to predict the economy and you will all different answers. All you can do is try them and see what you think.
